First, thx to all the awesome forums that helped me decide on my recent 2001 3.4 Sport pkg purchase. Much appreciated.
Purchased this vehicle from a dealer locally, 89K miles, clean interior and auto report.
No issues first two weeks but noticed a small stain on my driveway under engine compartment. Contacted the dealer (Ford), and they asked I bring it in (they are working with me). They diagnosed it to the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), which appears to me to the be the master cylinder + other functionality. They can see the fluid being pushed out of the front of the unit when the brakes are depressed, thus the stains/puddles under my truck (ran down frame rail, dropped to ground...).
Curious...they noted the new part from the dealer to be $2,000, but they found a used one for ~$300 (which I'm OK with, as they stated it came off a vehicle with 50K miles, sure I'm trusting). Is this the true price? I did some Googling and couldn't find much (read anything) about replacing a HCU on a 4 runner. Is it mis-diagnosed? Should I be telling them to look elsewhere?
Thanks in advance for your replies - Drew
