The "media" are corporations that respond to market forces. Keep that in mind whenever you read or watch any of the major outlets. At the end of the day, the corporate media depends on journalists who are fallible and subject to personal biases and even purposeful manipulations of the things they produce.
Taken as a whole people don't really mind media bias, the just font like it when it is contrary to their viewpoints. How many on the right complain about Fox bias? How many on the left complain about MSNBC bias? Until one confronts bias systematically and independently of whether or not it favors their position, there can be little hope of beating it back.
The media doesn't worry me, people unable or unwilling to think critically about what the see and hear trouble me deeply. I think you can find some of those folks nearby.

just a little food for thought of anyone thinking it wise to mess with america and it's right to bear arms.. anyone checked the local gun store sales numbers.. some went from 10,000 a day to 100,000 dollars of revenue a day since the gun control issue became a media target.

check out the article, I've even been to some gun stores locally they've become mad house's. People who have never even thought of owning a gun or even really need a gun are purchasing weapons in fear they won't have the ability to protect themselves. Media has instilled fear in people once again and now more law abiding citizens than ever before own a gun.

"according to the news" I didn't realize because it was on the new it must be true? the national crime rate is at an all time low, but you wouldn't think that because of what's reported in the news.. They don't tell you about the nurse that saved a babies life last night, or a citizen that rushed into a neighbors burning house to help save a child. No instead they choose to show you stories like shooting in east cityville or what have you. think about it...

not trying to be and ass, but it is entirely far fetched to desire firearm reform. We have the 2nd amendment to protect ourselves from any tyranny what so ever to be a free nation. Do you think we revolted against the British for fun..
no we revolted because the British disarmed the citizens then used the oppressing powers to enslave, rob, rape, kill it's people in mass public shootings. We went to war, we won George Washington himself said never again will our people not have the right to protect themselves from tyranny. foreign or domestic!
to oppose a law abiding american citizen there right to have equal arms in which to protect themselves is to disagree with the Constitution and the bill of rights. documents in which hundreds of thousands of free men chose to fight and die for instead of running or being suppressed.

You do know that our bill of rights borrows tremendously from the English bill of rights, don't you? Predates ours by about a century. The bill of rights is not the unique document some think, although out application is in many ways novel and more expansive.
You also probably know that there were a great many Americans that wanted to stay under the crown.
You must also know that the regulating of guns (what we call gun control) has a long history of acceptance in the U.S. and that we as a nation have never been singularly of the mind that the 2nd gives every person the right to own any firearm of their choosing.

I did know all those things.
inevitably though any form of gun control in america would endanger the lives of all the law abiding naturally good citizens of our country and put power in the hands of those who could care less about laws and do as they please any way.
I don't believe anyone thinks or believes everyone should own a gun, that's why you have to follow legal procedures to purchase guns, as well as fall under certain criteria to uphold the right to own a firearm of your choosing.
the weapons that are intended to be banded are not assault riffles none of them have fully automatic capabilities and it's rare to even find said owner of a true fully automatic or three round burst rifle (which would be the definition of an assault rifle) I can take the wooden stock off of my 22 rabit gun and put plastic tactical grips on it maybe a light and a scope and eewww its all of a sudden an assault rifle BS!
guaranteed any tactical rifle sold in federally licensed distribution location is only semi automatic meaning it only fires once each time the trigger is pulled, just like any hand gun, most rifles (aside from bolt action or lever action, and some shotguns.
and your looking at upwards of 40k to make those rifles capable of firing fully automatic. which not many gun owners even desire considering rapid fire is a waste of amo and I plan to down any target with one bullet not 2 or 3.

Glad we've had such an intelligent, productive conversasion here. Obviously, the guys who like their guns think they shouldnt be regulated at all, and the guys who like their violent games and movies say the same. Then, the conversation deteriorates to virtual name-calling and once again we find no solution to a very complex and multifactoral problem. The thread pretty much sums up the US in the 21st century. Sad.

You know the U.S. in the 21st century is all about single topics KCcarguy. Elections are won & lost on single topics whether it's gun control, abortion, gay rights, tax increases, etc. Add that to the collective short term memory of Americans and there's not much to be optimistic about.

Which is why I believe it's possible that a large group of our population want fire arms reform. Because all the media and "influential" people say its the answer.
