I bought a Jeep

Maybe you will get lucky and get one of the very rare "no problem" models... I hear they make one every blue moon when the celestial bodies have aligned and the heavens have parted?

Its not that they're bad vehicles... the new Jeeps look nice inside, its that they are horrid, decrepit, disgusting examples of poor engineering and reliability. My professional experience with both BMW and Chry-Corp has taught me that neither brand is worth owning, leasing and dumping it at the first sign of issues? Sure... but owning, is a very very high risk proposition.

I wish you the best of luck, worst case scenario you can always buy a new 5th gen and get an aftermarket bumper to fix the disgusting "refreshed" front ends (I hate them as well. ) We'll forgive you for your mista... erm.. betra... I mean your choice. :)
 
Haha.. no not really. We got the GC because my wife wanted full time 4WD and the pricing on the Limited just wasn't conducive. I considered the 4R again instead of the wrangler but the front is just too ugly on the SR5/Trail and I like the soft top. Maybe with 2 Jeeps we'll be able to keep at least one them functioning at all times. :lol:

Its always good to see someone go against the flow. The new jeeps do look nice.

I owned a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport for years and loved it. I drove it up to 175,000 miles before selling it. Nothing bad to say about it.

This is coming. Grand Cherokee Hellcat or something.

I like the SRT GC's, they look tough and have the performance numbers to back it up. Toyota (Honda, GMC, Ford) offers absolutely nothing for the performance SUV market that can run like an SRT.
 
my buddies dad has a jeep, already replaced both heads with only 36k and tons of tranny shavings plus its knocks when cold. hopefully yours isnt like that.

Eh, if it happens, I'll deal with it. Its only for weekend fun since I work from home. Plus the closest stealership is about a mile and a half away. I'm the perfect candidate for owning a Chrysler.

The same week we bought our SR5 my sister and her husband bought a GC Limited. Its real nice and has the power tailgate too. I tagged along for the purchase. It is very similar to my ML350. Mercedes and Chrysler were hooked up for a while and this Jeep is like a ML clone but 10k cheaper. Deal breaker for me. The reason I was buying a new car was because of the beating I took owning a Mercedes. My daughter and her husband have a 2014 GC turbo diesel. Their having problems already and so is his buddy with the same truck. Sorry to be so negative but my scars are deep. I see your wifes point about the AWD though. Good Luck I hope it works out. Thats a sentence nobody says to a Toyota owner.

I'll admit... the power tailgate has me spoiled. I feel bad for anyone getting the first few iterations of a diesel in these things. They've had some silly problems and I expect the same will be true for when they add the diesel to the Wrangler line-up. The one good thing about these is that they hold their value. The GC is around the same as the 4R and the Wrangler is a bit higher from what I've seen, even given their infamy for issues.

The diesel has thrown him into limp home mode twice so far. Luckily hes been withing a couple miles of the dealer and he just crawls there in the slow lane.

Yeah, I've read there's a hose that's part of the exhaust system and it can be knocked loose fairly easily, which sends you into limp mode. Sucks.
