I bought a scanguage and I like it.

Hi guys, I bought a scanguage, and installed it earlier in the week, and I dont really know if its totally accurate, but its telling me that I am averaging 26mpg. on the highway,(60 mph on cruise control) and getting about 17mpg. in the city, everything else looks really accurate though, from rpm, to speed, to distance etc.., I was skeptical before I bought it. but if it is true, I really am pleased with the results I am seeing. I checked for the stored codes, but there wasnt any, so that was good news. still trying to set the fuel tank readings, but I guess it will take a few fill ups to get that in line.there wasnt any great place to mount it, but I found a place that works,by the drivers door, just below the vent, so I will just keep it there. I know some of you guys allready have it, its a cool little device,,, just wanted to share it with you,, thanks,,,,

I have been thinking about picking one of these up because i like the idea of being able to check and clear codes regardless of all the other features of the scangauge. it seems like a useful tool that would be worth having.
 
I am not familiar with this gadget. I agree, please post some pics and/or info on where you got it. Interested for sure. Thanks!

You really should get one, since you would also have the ability to monitor many other gauges such as horsepower, engine load, the exact temp of the engine coolant, etc.

For those with 99-02 T4R's, you would have the ability to monitor the ATF temp too, through the xgauge feature. Sucks for us 96-98 people though, since the codes are apparently different and nobody has yet found the codes for the earlier models.

Got the idea to mount it there from a member on here and YT. I had it in the hole under my headunit before, but I couldn't put my wallet and phone in there anymore, which was inconvenient for me.
 
thanks for posting the pics guys, I hope it is accurate, I am really happy with my highway mpg.(26), it really shows a big difference between 55 mph, and 70 mph, the mpg really drops. I am still working on some of the other functions, probably take a while to figure it all out,,I just bought it off of the scanguage website,, it explains everything right there,,I really think it is worth the money,,,thanks,,,,
 
maybe we should contact them for a group buy on these as i heard some of the guys on yota tech got them in a group buy for 130 shipped.
 
Count me in for a possible group buy-about how many people will that take?
For sure a pretty useful tool to have plus they are just cool !
 
I love mine too. If you are AVERAGING 26 on the highway, you must live in a very flat area, or you haven't correctly calibrated your fuel settings in the scangauge. You need to tell it it has an 18 gallon tank (I know it's 18.5, but it doesn't allow decimals). Then you need to start fresh with a full tank of gas...at a place you will return to in the future. Once you fill up again, you fill up at the same place (preferably at the same pump). Then you compare how many gallons you actually put in with the amount of fuel the scangauge says you used. Then you calibrate it. If it's reading too much consumption, you reduce the number of gallons used (in 10ths of a gallon). If it's reading too little, you need to increase the number of gallons used. After a few cycles of doing this you will get your "real" results.

I don't doubt you are seeing mid-20's on the highway, but averaging that is very difficult. I've done 23.5 before on a long trip...mostly flat. Following another car/truck/semi will yield better results too.
 
Thanks Qyota, I thought it seemed a bit high, I am on my second tank of gas, and just waiting to go through it so I can callobrate it,,the highways out here are fairly flat, and I am trying to stay close to 55 - 60 mph, that seems to give me the best results,I just put it on cruise, and watch the scanguage,, its pretty cool, by next week i hope to have it callibrated properly, and ill let you know,,,thanks again,,,
 
That is correct. And, your SGII should have come with a small (almost illegible) manual that covers all of this stuff.
 
And you guy's with bigger tires are finding that the readings are accurate also as far as MPH and miles driven (odometer)?
 
I had read earlier of the pre '99 trucks not displaying all the features... Has this been resolved by chance? I'd like to use it more of tranny temp, engine temp, and stuff like that rather than RPM and speed which I have perfectly good gauges for. I'd just like something more quantitative for the temperatures. AFR or things like that would be good too, which I believe should work.

If so, I'd like to get one for my '97. I'd use it for the RX-8 as well.
 
Basic functions work for pre-99s (all OBDII). MPG, Ignition (volts), RPM, MPH, Water temp, Incoming Air temp, etc.

But what doesn't seem to work are certain X-codes. Those are the user-programmable codes like trans fluid temp, etc.
