I can not figure this problem out..

I am at a loss on what to do.

The truck (at the time when I bought it a few months back) would start to shake and pudder, if I tried to stay around 55, or if I was just feathering the gas.

I later checks a check engine light witch gave me PO303 witch is Cylinder 3 misfire. turned it off, and bought some things like New NGK 10$ piece spark plugs and NGK Wires intake, Flowmaster 40 series 2.5 cat back.(thinking stock wasn't letting it breath)

Drove it for a couple days "BAM" Check engine light, Checked it same thing (Cylinder 3 misfire) witch doing research on this site I learned witch cylinder it was and bought a 190$ Brand new injector. Put it in, drove it for a few days noticed that I had more power, and at cruising speeds I was no longer feeling like I was driving through speed bumps.

About a week later, "BAM"... Same code, same PO303. so today did a compression check, reads 155 witch is good. So im kinda at a loss of what to do, if anyone has ideas I am defiantly going to listen, I just really want to fix the problem..

thanks for any and all help everyone its much appreciated:cry2:.

have you swapped coils w/ another cylinder to see if the problem moves when you move the coil?

any vac leaks on that cylinder? injector o-ring, intake gasket etc?

Bought it without knowing the problem, but I wish I only payed 1500 lol.

yes I forgot to add that I switch coil packs 5 and 3 around and had the same code. Po303 even with different coil pack.

Did injector O rings.

(Not my motor) but u said vac leak witch made me think.

I use to hear this noise when I would get done driving from the driver side near brake booster area next to driver fender, would be a buzzing noise coming from there somewhere where all those vacume hoses are leading into. dont know if that helps, but this picture shows what im talking about.

the buzzing sound you mention is normal. it's part of the vacuum system right where you think it is. My brothers 96 does the same thing. if you pull the hoses off of those little round plastic housings next to the brake cylinder one at a time(while it's doing it) you'll find which one it is. Just letting you know it doesn't have anything to do with your engine misfire.

I recently had about the same problem with my 96. Misfire on cylinder 3, so
I did Denso plugs and Toyota wires. Couple days later, check engine light again! Misfire cylinder 3! Pulled the coil back off and was checking the boot. Noticed that it was broken off at the plug end maybe a 1/2 inch. Put another boot on it and has been fine so far! May be something to check out!

I am having pretty much the same problem with my 96 but the misfire is on #1, Ive replaced plugs, wire, coil, and the injector today but still no luck...

Keep us updated on your progress and best of luck.

ive had the same problem with my 4runner, i replaced all the injectors and it seems to be better but now i have hard starts because i think the injectors are leaking fuel into the cylinder while it sits. but anyways just keep an eye on it

Mine when i start it after it sits for a couple hours will idle like its missing for 10 seconds then clear out and idle smooth, i did fuel filter plugs wires and a couple other things and it still does it on occasion but only after 10 seconds of first starting it then it clears up and runs fine im stumped on that issue yours seems to be similar just a little worse

Yeah I still have the problem, What I did do though witch solved ALOT of it but not all. Was got NGK Plugs and wires, Has to be NGK for some reason, and bought the spendy ones mind you, helped it alot with the cruising misfire, but now in low speeds it will pudder still.

Are the spark plugs you put in dual ground(or is it dual electrode)? If not that can cause some issues. Even the high quality single ground plugs

I will take a video, I had dual electrodes, then when I bought the NGK I got the single prong and they seemed to do better, so I was happy, but just today it started acting up quite a bit..

Ill half to take video of it...

Is there any ticking going on? Can you check the cyclinder sound by using a wood dowel or metal rod to listen for ticking or knocking by placing it to your ear? That or check the electrical connection at the cyclinder 3 injector and coil to see that they are properly connected / not bent / corroded ect.

Just a few thoughts I had after reading through the posts.

Also is there a cold air intake on the truck at all? People have bent engine rods by sucking water into CIAs which in turn cause the engine to misfire. The rod / piston will not reach top dead center and therefore not fully cumbust in the cyclinder. Hopefully this isn't the case...

Engine light, finally!

Update, So I was switched coil pack 3 to coil pack 5, because I was getting a misfire for cylinder 3 all the time, so in thought if the coil pack are switched and I get a misfire for 5 then that should mean coil pack. and today, while driving home from work, I pulled a check engine code.

Code read ( PO 305 cylinder 5 misfire ) so that tells me that it is a coil pack. So this Friday (pay day) I will go buy one, and let you all know if that works.

But I have a question, witch brand should I buy, because after finding out that Toyota is so picky on engine parts, im worried ill buy the wrong brand and it will run the same. any suggestions??
