I'm ordering a lift and new tires next week. Going with a Terrafirma 2" medium duty lift and 265/65/18 Cooper AT3's.

I'm loving to words of encouragement around here. You guys are acting like I just traded my 4runner for this. My truck had several things wrong with it, and those were several things that I didn't want to mess around with. This isn't going to be her daily driver so I'm not that worried about it right now. Plus I still have no car payments which is a plus. Setting the limit is just how we do it with any used car we buy. There'e no point to continually dump money into something just to have something else go wrong.

This is exactly the right attitude. Keep in mind that Internet forums are constantly full of heresay and bad advice. Most people on forums dump on cars they have never owned. I'm sure that you probably won't spend too much if you're doing the wrenching yourself. Most people who spend too much on European cars just take them to some shop at every little sign of a problem. Most shops rip people off.

But the car drive it, enjoy it. If it's problematic, give it the Wheeler Dealer treatment & sell. Fortunately, that thing has done most of its depreciation, so if you don't dump a bazillion miles on it, you probably won't come out badly.

Fwiw, I'm learning after the fact that 4th gen 4Runners are no picnic. Typical toyota insufficient rustproofing, calipers which need constant replacement, failed rad, driveshaft issues, ridiculously short service interval, etc. Meanwhile, I've had several "bad" BMWs that never gave me any trouble.

As you know, everything depends on the previous maintenance. A lot of used cars started going wrong at the hands of lessees who didn't give a crap.
