Ok so i have a few issues here..
I have a 2002 4runner Limited.
Now its been my parents daily driver for the past 6 years. And they want to get a car now for the gas mileage, Now im 17 and they are handing it over to me. Yea we paid 36'000 for it and i get it. No im not spoiled at all i work hard to get get what i want i work construction enough said.

Anyway getting to my point, I have already put a few things into the runner, New HID headlights, New Aftermarket fog lights, Tailpipe tip, windshield wipers, K&N filter and a few other things. Now since its officially going to be mine I want to start to get this puppy lookin good, sounding good, and running good.

One problem is my father thinks different.. He thinks the things i want to get for it are not of necessity.. Like Flowmaster Muffler with dual pipes, K&N Cold Air intake, Lift kit, brush guard, and etc.

I need a good way to convince him. Oh btw i pay for everything.

haha id like help.

Thanksss

First of all, do the deckplate mod, a lot cheaper than a K&N cold air intake. Now that being said, a lot of people on here will possibly side with your dad because a lot of us are parents. Odds are you are just hyperfocusing on the 4Runner like a lot of us do. My wife constantly tells me that. It is hard to give advice on other peoples parents. Eventually he might come around to it. Sorry I wasn't much help.

I'm 17 too, but I guess I haven't really had that much of a problem getting the "ok" from my parents. I haven't done that much "major" stuff though.

I'm kinda wanting rims. We will see how that goes over. :).

sounds like a couple of us are in the same boat, and im 18 but i have a brushguard and got in a wreck, luckly the brushguard saved my truck when i slid off the road from being totaled! i also have a sound system and a K&N CAI, but my dad bought that for me....

and the next things i want is a flowmaster and lift kit, but i dont think it will go over with him like your dad....

try keeping the car clean and taking really good care of it and see if he comes around to you! like i mean wash it every weekend and everything!

check out my sig and that everything i got! how about u throw up some pic of your rig!!! i would love to see it good luck

Even though the truck is "your's", your Dad paid for it.
Start to accept that hard truth. Don't waste your time trying to convince him.

Take care of the truck and enjoy it for what it is.

If that bugs you too much, find out blue book value, pay him off and mod that beast to the hilt.

Thats the only pic i have now this was before i waxed it one night i was out driving and saw and empty parking lot so pulled over and took a few. And if your wondering why the fog lights are Under the truck its cause the place where they are supposed to go doesnt look right, Im waiting for my brush guard to come in to put them on.

But yea its a Golden Pearl :) nice nice color Ill get some better ones up soon. ALSO debating on what kind of brush guard would look good on this... Black, Chrome, Or my dad suggested getting it painted the color of the truck? i dunno about that.

Yea i didnt like that idea either. But i dont have a better one at the moment ill get one maybe tomorrow. I have to wash it though... I took it off roading a few days ago haha

don't feel bad i know how it is. my parents bought my 4runner for me for graduation as my dad took my car that was handed down to me after my sister moved out of the house.

i wanted to get a set of 20s or 22s and it was an 2001 Limited 2WD, but my dad was not big on that look and said no. so i decided to go for a more off-road look which he didnt mind as much. i basically got most of the stuff i wanted but he says no to a lift which was kinda the whole reason i went the different route i did. He thinks it looks just fine the way it is.

just try to get as much stuff as you can. the first thing i got was a cat-back flowmaster system like you mentioned and i love it. just try small minor things like instead of HIDs just newer bulbs, clear corners, different taillights.

i can understand where he comes from though since i'm only 19 and about to move off from local community college to the real thing next year so hopefully when i'm done with it i can get the big stuff. :bigok:

edit: here is what the flowmaster system will sound like if you do somehow talk him into it.

Oh i already have the HID's put in. And i saw your videos on youtube one day of you driving up and back your driveway and i loved the sound of your runner!!:yesyes:

And my dad isnt that much of a **** i must have made it sound like he is. I mean he will agree to a few things but he is sceptical about a few things.. Like the Muffler and the duals and intake and such.. He thinks its going to hurt the truck. He is one of the people that think " if its not broken dont fix it " I say make it better :) haha.

i kinda just took my graduation money and went to the muffler shop and got it done so when i got home he really couldn't say nothing lol. my dad is cool though about some stuff. he bought my brushgaurd for my birthday so. he will let me get some new rims though so i'm been trying to find some nice aftermarket 16s. the lift is the main thing i cant really do.

as far as engine stuff though i wanted to get a k&n filter and intake and he was like no about messing w/ engine stuff so just try to get working on the cosmetic stuff.

show your dad the video and see what he says. he might end up liking it and after that i have had no problems at all with it he might change his mind.

haha yea i did the same thing the head lights and fog lights he came home one day and they were already put on. He liked them actually. i think im going to do that with the muffler to take it to a dealer cause my friends dad owns one and have them install it so if they **** up its their fault not mine :) haha, And the lift i dont need but would be a nice touch. just the little things he wont mind except subs... he hates the thumping haha

i just want to lift my front up some to level it out more with the rear end.

subs are easy just tell them you want have it super loud and turn them off when you turn on your street. thats what my pitch is gonna be whenever i ask about getting some

Getting a lift can be a lot more expensive than you think. Besides the cost of the lift you will probably need bigger tires to make it look good. The lift will also hurt your MPGs so that can add up also.

I agree with trying the small things first. The things that I have done are pretty small, but in my opinion they make a big difference.

LOL. I pretty much said the same thing. It worked I guess.

The subs are probably the best thing I have purchased for my car.
