I don't understand tire sizing...Can someone help?

Hey guys. As some of you may know I put 06 18 inch wheels on my 05 sport. I bought Goodyear SR-A's to put on there, but have grown to hate them. I am trying to get some tires to replace them. Goodyear is letting me exchange them within the goodyear brand for whatever the price difference is. My question is this...

I have 265/60 R18's on now. What size difference would a 255/70 R18 make? Would I still be able to use my standard spare (on 17 inch wheel)?

What comes standard on the 06 18inch?

I believe that the '06 has specially made Michelin CrossTerrains (rare) and Bridgestone Dueler H/T (common) in that size from factory. Both tires canNOT be bought at this time in that size aftermarket.

Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor does come in 265/60/18. See this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17198&highlight=265/60/18

However, i have heard that this size has not come out yet...so, you may need to pressure Goodyear. Since you can get Wrangler SilentArmor in this size, i would NOT get 255/70/18.

Techically speaking, 265/60/18 = 265/65/17 = 265/70/16. All are considered to be 31" tires.

Does anyone make a 285/60/17 AT type tire? That would be about an exact match for our tire size, but with wider tread.

Do you all think 285/60/18 fortera silentarmors would fit okay without rub. They look only to be minimally bigger than my 265/60's. I cannot find any 265/60 Wrangler Silentarmors out there.

From what i understand, 285-tires are a bit too wide and may rub at extreme steering angles esp. if you off-road.

I think that Cleric has this tire size in Nittos. You may want to ask him.
