I dont understand

I just dont get why so many want to move to Denver from say Ca. ?
I dont get it, in Ca. you have mountains like we do, AND,, you have the beach, why would you want to move here ? I mean it gets cold and snows here...

Then theres the people from Tx. really, again, dont you know that it snows here ? and theses people do not, know how to drive in the snow, they dont know that a RED light means STOP..

We even have people moving here from states like Fl. seriously, people need to learn to drive in snow BEFORE, thinking about coming here...

Colorado is so FULL of transplants, that dont know anything about Co, and do NOT know how to drive in snow,, as a whole, its starting to REALLY SUC living here, and Im not talking about all the Illegals we already have here, driving wiht no ins.

Sorry for the rant, but if anyone could answer the questions, Id like to hear what people think.

As someone who moved from Southern California to Colorado and back to SoCal...

I moved out there for school - CSU (Ft. Collins) class of 2002.
I thought I would be able to stay out there in Colorado but 9/11 and the resulting recession changed that and I moved back to SoCal a couple months after graduating because of the lack of employment opportunities.

What helped me choose Colorado:
1. Lower stress. SoCal has always been a stressful area to live and work. Everyone is always in a rush and would sooner run you off the road than allow you to merge/chane lanes. Overall, the quality of life is/was better.

2. SNOW! Yes, I said it - glorious snow! SoCal has 2.5 seasons - Spring, Summer, and 2 weeks of fall. No real colors of fall/winter here and hardly any snow. While it is a problem for most drivers, I had no issue driving in Colorado winters on summer tires. And just a note: I've seen plenty of "NATIVE" stickers poorly "parked" in the center median of I25... Poor driving is universal.

3. Clean air and (some) friendly people. The first time I toured CSU, I was walking down College in Old Town and a few folks actually looked me in the eye and greeted me (Good Afternoon, Hello, etc) which is not something I can say for walking around SoCal - most actively try to not make eye contact.

BTW, my favorite bumper sticker I saw in Colorado: "Californians: Go back to California and take a Texan with you!" :biggrin2:

What's the big deal with people migrating to Colorado?
I was always astounded by the anti-sprawl iniatives that Coloradans tried to pass to prevent allowing their cities to grow to accomodate more people. Isn't Boulder still a one out / one in city?

What I like about Co is the general appreciation of nature and remembering how important it is to preserve the beautiful areas around us. There seems to be a general trust of people to do the right thing. For example, I was playing disc golf in Arvada and there were signs stating "Natural Prairie Reserve" or something like that. If that was in St. Louis, it would have to be fenced in because most people don't appreciate nature and even go so far as to write things like F-you on signs like that. CO people's (general) mindset seemed to be more laid back than folks in StL. Additionally, my wife and I are very active people. We love to go walking, biking, camping, hiking, disc golfing, climbing, etc and there are simply a lot more beautiful places to do those type of things out there. Plus, I love the snow. We don't get a ton in StL, but more than enough that I've learned to drive efficiently in it. Unfortunately, most people don't know how to drive in it, wether they're from CO, FL or IL

I'm sure everyone has their gripes about where they live. Trust me, I have plenty about St. Louis. But, it really isn't all that bad of a place. However, it seems like St. Louis is trying to be the next Chicago (being that it is only 5 hours up I70) and I want nothing to do with that "progress." I appreciate wide open spaces, natural land formations and forests more than a new shopping mall or mini mart. Some people look across a Prairie Reserve and see "nothing" where I see everything. Also, with all the driving I do, I'd prefer to see mountains and hills rather than buildings, pollution and stupid people.

In short, people want to move there for all the reasons you want to keep the place all to yourself. It is beautiful and isn't over-inhabitated with people, though (unfortunately) it seems to be moving that direction.

EDIT: I did notice quite a few illegals out there while on vacation. And I prefer that to the equivalent trash we have here in StL

In California you have to leave your house, go to your neighbors house, call the cops, and wait 8 to 10 hours for them to show up.

California has some of the most insane laws in the country.

CA does not appeal to me at all. The majority of the people who live in Orange County are self-absorbent rich folk. The girls don't have any character. The guys think they're Grade A top shelf badasses. None of them have any sense of logic. Put one of these schmucks in rain and they'll do 95mph on the freeway. Snow? I'd be far away from any roads on that day.

I'm more worried about my general safety. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can drive properly. It's a "My BMW is faster" contest. All it takes is one of those people to kill you. Tailgating at outrageous speeds is commonplace, the 5 second rule is unheard of.

For once, I'd like to live in a place where people actually consider you a human equal. A place with no smog, no "smug", and gorgeous Rocky mountains to explore.

stupid people are everywhere anyway... I'm out in the middle of nowhere for school and there are some terrible drivers out here. Once a week I see someone fly right through a 4 way stop without a clue.

So Cal native here. My wife is from Loveland Co. I live at the beach, would never trade that for anything. My sons love to surf. We have property in Missouri to hunt on and buy & shoot what our DumbOcratic overlords of the past 40 years deem us not worthy to own. We spend a few weeks there each year to give the boys a small town environment. That said I am 1.5 hours away from the desert so my sons and I can send rounds 1,000 meters down range. I am also 1.5 hours away from snow skiing in the afternoon after surfing that morning.

We have world class restaurants here, every major amusement park. I guess if we lived inland it would suck. But the weather is great most of the year. Karting and road race tracks to lay your knee down in the corners, awesome canyons to drift your sports car. We have everything within a easy drive to go do.

Taxes are high and if your kids are unlucky enough to attend public schools then they get subpar educations. But these are easy fixes if your income is high enough. Bottom line it is what you make of it, the grass is not always greener elsewhere.

Love the state (lived there for nearly 10 years), but dislike most of the people. Actually, central and eastern California isn't that bad...love Yosemite, Death Valley, and most of Tahoe. But along and near the coast...sheesh.

I moved to Colorado when I was 16 years old (25 now) and haven't looked back since. Best place to live imo. But I have noticed it is starting to get a little more crowded then before.
