I feel dumb

Bought my 4Runner about a year ago with 230K miles. From reading this forum I decided I needed to go ahead and put a timing belt, water pump, and radiator in it. Just yesterday I found about the Toyota owners site. Toyota Owners Official Web Site

Turns out all the records of my truck are there going back to 2005 and the timing belt was done at the dealership at 212K miles! AHH! Oh well..

DOH! That sucks. Were you able to save the one that was taken off at least?

I did not. Should have. At least I know the previous owner took it to the dealer for everything. Even oil changes.

Yeah better to be safe on something like the timing belt. Thanks for that site though. I have a 4runner with 180k miles on it and not a very good idea of the work that was done. I will check it out.

It's a cool site, but a ton of people don't get work done at the dealer. Which... wouldn't show up in the site.

Then again, a ton of people do :P

You'd feel dumber if you did not change it and it broke.

Agreed, never feel dumb about preventative maintenance. When in doubt just do it. Now you know it was done and know the quality of work that went into it. That always feels better. At least T-belt and water pump is more labor than parts (typically) so hopefully you're out more time than money.

Oh yeah. I'm not worried about it. Was just funny that I found that site a year after buying the truck. From everything I've done, I trust the truck now. I wouldn't have trusted it otherwise. Hell, I am driving my 245,xxx mile rig on a 450 mile road trip this Saturday!

yep i found about 5 oil changes and that was it. not much for me on that site unfortunately...and they were like 10k miles apart...a bit unsettling.

I've totally done that before. Nice work though for taking the initiative and just getting it done! Others have said it, but at least you don't have to worry about that maintenance task for a while now! =)
