I finally got my 4Runner

After lots of research and looking I finally purchased my 4Runner today. There are not many 4x4 V8 sport models without sunroofs available. At least not in the San Diego area. I even went to one dealership yesterday and the manager told me Toyota does not make the sport model in 4 wheel drive. I told him he was most definitely mistaken. He said I was wrong. I told him I've seen them on other dealer lots. He told me he didn't belive me. Haha, I'm half tempted to drive my new 4x4 sport model to see him. He basically called me a liar. Oh well, not worth my time.

Anyway, my final deal was $500 over invoice and 2.9% financing with zero money down. I feel I got a good deal considering the lack of availability for these models in this area.

So far the 4Runner is awesome. I'm looking forward to driving it on a daily basis.

The V8 power is definitely nice. The whole truck just feels very solid, smooth, refined, and tough. Hopefully I still feel the same years down the road. With the 4Runners reputation I think I will.

The salesguy who told me they don't make the 4x4 v8 sport said the toyota website will say they do and other dealers will even take orders for them, but that they do not make them for the San Diego area. The front cover and first two pages of the 4Runner brochure even show the 4x4 v8 sport. Whatever, he lost a sale and I found a good dealership.

Titanium Silver - I didn't have much to pick from, but I figured the silver would be easy to keep clean, would be good for resale value, and wouldn't be one of those colors that I might regret in a few years.
 
Congrats. I'm a recent new owner of an 04 4x4 V8 Sports without sunroof too. Love the car... err truck! Can't wait to load the family and head off road!
 
Congratulations on your new Runner. That guy should read up on his 4Runner's a little more. I also have the V8 4X4 sport and it is great. Mine has the sunroof, but I now wish I got it without it.
 
I should have been more clear in the post, but it is not that I do not like the feature of a sunroof. It is just the dealer broke my sunroof and is having a hard time getting parts for it (backordered). It goes in with a noise, leaves the dealer not being able to be opened or closed. It is so aggravating.

I have had mine now for 3 weeks and i love it. The sport with the v8 4x4 is just awesom, we went to disneyland last weekend and on the freeway, first freeway trip i was very happy with passing power. She really can go when u need her too.
I pulled out my sticker just to see how i did on mine, i think i got as better deal because they where having a huge sale when i got mine. Sticker was $35,475, they started my contract at $31,499. I think i got a savings of $3976. after sales tax, fees, warranty, license fees, etc it went back up to $35324. Then with my $5500 down and $1000 rebate i only had to finance $29000. I wasn't as lucky, couldn't get 2.9%, had to settle for 3.49% at my credit union.
I have a question from you guys...i was here looking at my sticker...on the right hand side it says standard equipment, then it lists everything on my car. then on the left it lists the optional equipment. I notice something odd...listed on the right side under mechanical & performance it lists Down-Hill Assist Control and right under that Skid Plates/Hill-Start Assist Control. Here is what is odd...i do not have skid plates that i know of, and i do not have the HAC button on my center console, only the DAC button. Am i missing something here?????????

I think when i test drove the limited it had both a HAC and a DAC button on the center console...that may be why i was missing it on my sport.

None of the 4Runners have an HAC button on the center console. There are 5 slots for buttons on the console, 2- heated seats, DAC (4WD models), 2- adjustable ride height. HAC enables automatically.
 
Just out of curiosity, which dealer told you they don't make the sport in a 4x4? That's rather amusing. I was over at Kearney Mesa Toyta a week or so ago, and test drove a silver V8 4x4 sport. Those guys seemed a bit more knowledgable.
 
The dealership was Toyota of El Cajon. I had test driven the same silver 4x4 sport v8 at Kearny Mesa a few days prior. I absolutely knew Toyota made the model in this region. The sales guy at El Cajon admitted to being new and took me into the managers office. That's where the manager (Jeff Stein or something like that) told me they definitely do not make that model here. I told him other dealers have them on their lots. He said, "I don't belive you". I laughed and said, "you don't believe me....want to make a bet on it?" He said, "no, I don't need to". Then he went on to say this happens a few times a month....referring to customers thinking they know more. Then he showed me the codes (random codes that I would not understand) of incoming 4runners and said, see, nothing for 4x4 sport models. Then I walked out disgusted. I told the sales guy that I couldn't believe the manager just told me he didn't believe me and basically called me a liar. The sales guy said that he couldn't believe it either and he said I should go buy one from another dealer and then bring it back to show the manager. He then said he couldn't believe he said that to me when I'm as big as I am. I have thought about driving back there to show them my 4Runner, but I have nothing to gain from it. Overall, it was just a funny experience. After I left El Cajon I went back to see the silver 4x4 sport at Kearny Mesa.....only to find out it was sold. Did you buy that model there?
 
I ended up going for a Gray V6 4x4 sport from Kearney Mesa. I loved the V8, but I can't justify the added fuel cost. Plus I'm not towing anything, so the advantage of the V8 is greatly minimized. The switchable 4WD on the V6 is also very appealing to me. The truck should be in within the next couple days.... so we'll see.

Just for the heck of it, do you remember the mileage on that V8 4X4 at Kearney Mesa when you took it for a test drive? I think it was around 75 when I was in it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same truck.
 
I'm pretty sure it was the same truck. The build date was 10 or 11/03. There were also a few scuff marks on that truck....like on the inside of one of the rear doors. I didn't like the fact that the truck was 6 months old already. The one I ended up buying was built in 3/04. Congrats on your new truck coming in.

I'm not sure if that dealer is out of the way but I would take it for a drive by. Wait until you are close to an oil change interval and then drop in to the manager and say "Remember me?" Tell him he lost his bet (and sale) and owes you. See what kind of "Sport" he is.
