So this happened...
About a month ago I was on a work trip to the middle of nowhere, the guy I was down there to train and work with had a 2016 RZR XP 1000. I got a chance to take a good close look at one for the first time, I don't think I had ever seen one in person prior to that point. It was beefier that I expected, it was an impressive machine.
So that weekend we took it out to play on Saturday and Sunday, I drove his RZR and him and a couple of his riding buddies were on dirt bikes. We went ripping across the desert and then up into the mountains. We took a steep rugged narrow trail up the mountain covered in loose dirt and rocks and it handled like a champ. Hell it handled it in RWD. The capability was insane, it'll do more than most trucks and at 2-3 times the speed. It the most fun I've ever had in anything with an engine. It's a drift machine RWD, it'll rock crawl in AWD, and it's was perfectly happy sailing through the air. I was hooked. So I starting reading, researching, and reading some more. I eventually determined what I wanted and then went to work trying to convince the purchasing committee. Once we went and test drove one at a dealer on their little dirt test route my wife was convinced. A few days later I picked up a new trailer and that next weekend we went back and bought it.

Some specs - 29" tires, 18" of rear suspension travel, 16" of front suspension travel, 13" of ground clearance, 110hp 1000cc 2 cylinder 4 stroke, dual overhead cams, electronic fuel injection, 4 valves per cylinder, individual throttle bodies, CVT type transmission and selectable High and Low range gearing plus a switch for on demand AWD, 1,369 lb dry weight, 9.5 gallon fuel tank.
We took it out for the first time yesterday to start breaking it in. I broe for a bit then pulled over and had my wife drive, next thing you know she's ripping around at 30-35 mph on narrow rocky bench cut trail in the side of a mounting grinning ear to ear. She HATED going on offroad trails with me in the 4Runner but she loved the RZR.
