i got a regearing estiment

so I called a shop to see how much they would charge to regear my truck to 5.29 on my 85 4runner and I told him I have the gears and ill pull the 3rd member out and take it down to u.. so that's all they had to do is the labor on the gears he told me it was going to be 700 and I said holy crap and he said well that's for 2

Dude that's rediculas.. I make about 30 bucks an hrs which comes to about 240 a day and if it takes them 2 days whith 8 hrs each day there charging almost 45 dollars.. how many hrs does it take to regear I heard its not to hard jus. Need spicefic tools..

When I had my B4000 that's about what I was quoted to do front and back. They basically charged a flat rate per axle so it was whatever to swap gears and while they had it apart it wasn't any extra to put a locker in etc.

What are 4x4 shop rates these days? I know my dealer charges $90/hr and the performance shop I take another car charges $80/hr.

Another thought is that they just charge a flat fee for gear swaps regardless of how long it takes(although I'd bet it usually works out intheir favor).

2 hrs labor x 2 diffs x $100/hr is $400. Since you're supplying the parts no real warranty. That's what it's worth.

I was talking to my buddy and he's guna rebuild them for me and put my arb locker in the back for me for 250.. he said it takes like all day.. he works with a company that specialies in ford mustangs he does the regearing for them and it takes all dayfor him to regear the back but that's tear down and everything he said it should still take a while since its 2axels.. danm I took both my axels apart the back is really fast but the front was time consuming..

Theres few things I dont do myself and gears is one of them. Buddy help is awesome but theres no guarantee. I hope it works out!

I paid 4 state 4WD in Joplin MO $1200 per axle for new gears, new lockers, parts, and labor. (for comparison) seems fair.

Lastnight i dropped my 3rd members off at my buddies to get regeared I'm so excited.. and he's. Also putting my arb lockers in the rear.. I'm like a lil kid on christmas eve nightt.
