Finally, after months and months of searching I am now a proud owner of a 2001 Toyota 4Runner!!! The sad thing is I have never driven it or seen it in person. I am currently at school so i have been sending my dad to look at 4Runners that I find for sale online... He said it was the best one that we have looked at so far and I think he got it for a pretty decent price, so I'm psyched to see it. The bad news is I probably wont be going back home until thanksgiving... I don't know if i can ,make it that long knowing it is sitting at home waiting for me. Anyways its a 2001 4Runner SR5 with 133k. I'll post pictures soon.

Over thanksgiving I am going to start making some changes.
1. Install a roof rack - it came without one stock
2. Mount a snowboard rack on the newly purchased roof rack.
3. Install a CB radio
4. Install a new head unit.
5. Possibly a rear breather extension, but I dont know if I should wait until after I lift it.

That's all I really have planned for thanksgiving. I might purchase a snatch strap just to have in the back...

I also want to get a key fob and program it. It didn't come with a key fob when we got it. I had my dad look under the seat and there was nothing there to see if an alarm was there. Where else could I find the location of the factory alarm/lock controls? I figure since it is an 01' it has to have remote locks...

I plan on getting a 3" lift from toytec, but I wont do it until the spring or summer. What do you guys think of these?

congrats. and for the tires. u can still run the bfg a/t tires if you want. sell your tires you have now and im pretty sure you can get 300 for them if they in new condition still. use that towards the tires!

those tires look pretty big! are those 265/75/16's?

Look at the Kenwood DNX6140 or newer model. I had the Pioneer before, SLOW boot up speeds and wac navigation. Love my Kenwood and will never go back.
 
Yeah, thats my dad's. It has been a little neglected recently, but were hopefully going to start fixing it up soon.
 
nice runner, but that FJ40 made my mouth water!!!!

get the OME coils front and rear, make sure to get the top spacer if you are going with the 881's as I didn't and my front tires rub (285/75 BFG at's), if you get the factory roof rail mounts you can get either yakima or thule feet and crossbars and you are good! as for cb, search the site their are quite a few good ideas that the guys have where you can get one that fits where the ash tray is.

If you know you are lifting it, then do the breather mod afterwards. But you should check now to see of the current breather is clogged or corroded.

Can you remove the faceplate on that kenwood? i have been looking at it and it looks like it could be removed but it doesn't mention that it can be taken off. I dont want to spend 700 bucks on a radio then have it get stolen or anything... if you take the faceplate off it is a bit of a deterrent.
 
Did they make 2001 4runners without remote lock/unlock? I dont know where to look besides under the seat for the alarm "unit". I was also wondering where i could find a remote for this/ what kind should i be looking for exactly...
 
Haha everyone seems to love it. I would love to have taken that off of my dads hands but he wouldnt let me... and he still has never let me drive it. He claims that it is harder to drive beacuse it has wide tires and it has no power steering. The steering wheel also has a lot of play in it. I understand his concern, but he hasn't let me take it for a spin in a parking lot either. We used to go 4 wheeling along the power lines down the street from my house, we haven't gone in years, but it was a beast of road.

** my first and immediate mod would be to tint the hell out of the windows..hard to tell from pics but they look stock , could also be angle pic was taken at.

Nice 4r but that FJ is my dream 4x4. We had 1972 with a 350 in it when I was a kid/ teenager. My dad sold it when I was 15 for a big GMC Jimmy, what a disappointment. It sounded so beautiful with glass packs on it. I only remember it getting stuck one time which resulted in me walking home for the come along (not very prepared). I would love to have another one someday.
 
Alright, i've got a question and hopefully someone can give me an answer. I'm going to be changing the rotors on my 4runner, and iwas wondering if anyone knew the size of the socket that i will need to take off that really big nut. i believe its the one that holds the hub on. I know im not very descriptive but thats all i can think of.

Dont remove the hub to replace the rotors. First, I highly recommend the Tundra brake upgrade. Now you should only remove the 2 bolts that secure the brake caliper to the spindle they are 17mm. Then you might need to hit the rotor with a hammer but it should just pop off once the caliper is removed.
 
ok cool. thats good to know, i actually havent seen it yet, my dad just called me and sorta described what i needed to find out. Thanks though. that makes it easier.
