I got the back window to "power up" with a remote!

Hello,

I recently posted that I had a remote start installed in my 4Runner. I had a terrible experience and was left with a partially working remote start! I was in the process of confronting the installer when I got a 2 day notice that I was going oversees (I'm Air Force). When I got back it was too late for me to get a refund

Anyway, I decided too just bite the bullet and I had another remote start installed. They pulled out the old one and I'm going to try to sell it on Ebay.

This is what I got- Viper 160XV. It works great and has quarter mile range. It has all the features of my Toyota remote (lock, progressive unlock, panic, and back window power down) PLUS back window power up with the remote.

I was very suprised, but i've tested it and it works perfectly. The main difference is that with the Toyota remote I just have to hold it down until you here the "beep" and the window starts rolling down; but with the Viper I have to hold down on the button until the window has rolled all the way down or up.

I lost the little chirping sounds; however, they made it so I can have the option of making the horn do a quick honk when I lock it.

Overall it is very sweet. If you want I'll post the name and phone number to the store that did it. I would have done it on this post, but I don't know if that would be violating any of the rules here. Oh and sorry for the long post, but I figured you guys would be interested in the details.

I had my installer do that same thing on my remote starter. Just be careful that no one has their hands in the window when you are closing it. My friends hand almost got stuck in mine as I was closing it remotely and didn't know he was getting something out. Just and FYI and enjoy!!

I believe I have heard or read somewhere that the window roll up is prewired? Would you be able to confirm this? And if so, would it be possible to add this to the factory remote?

Anyways, that's awesome.

I dunno, I kindof want control of all the windows from the remote. Something like a close when doors are locked, a one-inch open, and fully open. or a control of how much to open the windows..

I fear though, that all this may not be able to be integrated with the stock remote..

You cannot control it through the factor remote. I had mine done through my remote starter remote. I have one remote that does everyting. Open, close, roll down the window, and roll it up. I use the same button to roll the window up and to start my car. Any aftermarket install of a remote starter should be able to add this to your remote. I would assume they know how to do this but unsure as others were not able to have this done. This could be possibly because of the brand of remote starter.

I work with automatic windows for an automotive supplier. The Viper function to hold the button down continuously complies in part to FMVSS 118, an automotive safety standard for power window operation. But I'm guessing that this operation really results from the normal "obstacle detecting" module powering the back window being bypassed by relays in the Viper.

Toyota can't provide fob operated back window up because of this FMVSS. There are restrictions about range and being "in sight" that fob operation would violate. In short power window operation should be "attended" with the driver in place, using a continuous button push or obstacle detecting automatic operation.

Congrats on the window up. I do have remote start using my original fob and I have window down. But without fob up it doesn't have much value to me.
