I just recently bought a 2005 Toyota 4Runner Sport and im wanting to put a lift on it. I will be having a buddy of mine who was a toyota tech do the lift. Little did i know about the Xreas suspension before i bought my vehicle, im wanting to know if there is anything we should avoid. Should we leave the Xreas system connected at all times? Im thinking a Daystar 2.5" front/2" back lift. Any suggestions? And one more question, what would be a good tire size to put on it afterwards? I was thinking BF M/Ts KM2s. Thanks for any comments and help!

Welcome, I know there are certain extra little steps to follow when you have xreas but it will be fine to use a daystar kit. Just research the extra steps on here. Also where you live?(Just Wondering)

Welcome. Depending on which Daystar you get you may not have to disconnect anything. If you do the key is to get all 4wheels extended, that takes all the pressure off of the lines. You can open them and reconnect them with no issues.

For tires look around here, you'll see a bunch of the BFG M/T from the Jeep application (slightly different than KM2). People use the 255/75/17, 265/70/17 and 285/70/17. Some use the Cooper in a 275 size (you can carry a full sized spare). You have lots of options. Look through the gallery thread and the lift & tire thread at the top of 4th gen. Lots of tire discussion in the Perf Zone section.

Look at J.A.'s lift write-up for further direction. He has a write-up on wheelspacers too:bigok:

Thank you for all the great information. I pretty much want to give my friend as much knowledge of the Xreas system as i can before he begins because he is unfamiliar (as i) with it. Im personally leaning towards Mud Terrains as of right now, but a couple of my buddies suggest maybe I go with All Terrains. I just really like the way they beef up a truck/suv :driving:

The disconnect points for X-REAS shocks are not at the shocks, don't disconnect the lines at the shocks. IIRC, a bit further down the lines near the lower control arms/cross member for the front and near the frame rail for the rear. Follow the X-REAS line and you should see a coupling connections for disconnecting the lines. There's a check valve in the connection to keep fluid from leaking.

There's a PDF with the disconnection points floating around the forum some where.

Do you think i will need to disconnect the lines? Or is this just in case I do? Thank you for your help, its much appreciated. You guys are all great here for a newbie!

Why are you going bigger in the rear? just curious because most people go bigger in front to level out the truck more.

Very good question! LOL Sorry, I mean 2.5" front and 2" back. Thank you for pointing that out. Will that level it correctly or is it more than .5" difference?

I'm guessing you want to keep XREAS? I had it but ripped it out when I installed my lift. I didn't notice a difference. Just food for thought.

It will help some. Mine is 3" in front and 2" in the rear and it seams to be perfectly level. If you compared a 2.5" in front and a 3" in front (both with 2" in the rear) you may not even notice a difference. But I'm not saying there won't be a difference either.

I'm sorry if im beating the topic up a bit, but i just want to make sure im making the best choice when i purchase a lift kit. Can someone explain the difference and benefits of the two following lifts..

1) Toytec 3" Kit w/front spacers & rear coils for $299

2) Daystar 2.5" FRONT 1.5" REAR SPACER LIFT KIT for $169

Why the price difference? Is it because one had rear coils? Whats the benefit? Thank you for any and all help :roadkill:

I'm no expert, but I'll give it a shot. The biggest difference I think is going to be the material of the coils. While many run the Daystar without issues, the material used in the Toytec is "technically" better from what I've read. Also, you've got it, springs are much more expensive than a simple spacer. The Toytec kit with the springs is probably priced higher because of that. One more thing: Toytec is a forum sponsor, so if you decide to go that route, PM Toytec Lifts to receive a discount code that will help reduce the cost.

I did only the front on my 2008, but didn't have to disconnect the X-REAS when I installed different springs and a spacer.

Just be careful and don't let it drop like a rock and you'll be fine.
