I have a little problem...

So, I have a little problem and I need some help from all you knowledgeable 3rd Gen owners. I bought my 1999 back in October, and was told by the dealership that it was an SR5, so just took it as true. Then after I bought it, had some friends, who own 4Runners, tell me "No, it's a Limited".
So, here are the facts: VIN number states that it is an SR5, and it has the narrow black plastic SR5 flares. On the other hand, it has the sport hood, leather, gold badging (but without the Limited badging), and the 16" 5 star wheels, not the 15" inch split-spoke that the sticky says come standard on SR5's. Also, I was unaware of leather in an SR5, as well as gold badges.

Could be that it was some kind of manager/dealer special? Anybody chime in w/ thoughts/answers.

It's an SR5 with leather and gold badges. Both of those items could be optioned onto any 4runner. Also, the 5-star wheels were stock on most 4runners from 99 on....including SR5's. However, some still got the old style wheels, just not very many.


The real question is: does it have push-button 4HI? Or do you have to pull the lever backwards manually?

Sport hood comes with SR5 only, and leather and gold badging are options on SR5 as far as I know...so you probably do have an SR5

Okay, I thought that's probably what it was with the options and such. But my VIN plate only shows one rim size, and that is the 15". Hmm?
And, yes, I have to pull the T-case shifter back for 4HI, I don't have the button. Were the Limited's the only ones with the button?

You have a Highlander SR5. The limiteds have the cladding on the doors.

Most 4runners will have the sticker on the door sill showing 225/?? r15 wheels and tires. I know mine shows that, yet has the 16" disk brakes up front and came with 265's from the factory.(found the original sticker) so the vin does not accurately report the wheel size/gearing

That was added on not factory. No limited came with a sport hood.

Well hey everybody, thanks for all the help. This clears up just a little curiousity that has been bugging me for a little while. Glad I know what I have though. I wasn't terribly worried though, because it has what matters: Toyota reliability, 4x4, and the rear E-locker.
