Last week I bought an 06 white sr5 with a third row seat, 51k miles. I just replaced the diff fluid with synthetic and noticed a couple wear marks on the filler bolt which tells me it had been done before:cheers:. Anyways, I am a maintenance junkie, as I had to be with the Volvo V70 I just got rid of, nightmare on little crap always breaking. Until the rear main seal started leaking, that was it for me.
So here I am with a couple of questions, first what is the filter inside the engine cover called. The one that is next in line after the air filter, following the air flow. I would like to replace this as I know the previous owner lived down a dirt road. Also, which plugs do you guys like, the nippondenso or NGK?
My Volvo was way finicky and only liked the exact replacement.

I finally got to scrub up the oil stain in my garage!!

I used the Denso Iridiums in my V6 and I'm very happy. I'm not saying they are better or worse than the NGK's but I'll say they work very well. Advanced Auto had the correct Iridium version of the plug so I can now enjoy a longer change interval.

Check the hydrocarbon filter thread in 'General". Some of us have removed it for better mileage.

I just joined the club too!!
This past friday traded in my freakin 2001 jeep grand cherokee, so glad to get rid of it, and bought a super clean 07 4Runner with 38k miles on it, lovin the longer roof rack for my kayaks, and the motor, v6, is so much stronger than the grand cherokee's.
im getting new plugs and air filter as well, should i just put in a K&N replacement or install nice cold air one or what? i wanna get the best efficiency/power i can get.
