I just bought an 86 turbo 4Runner with 156k miles, what oil should I run?

Basically I just picked up this truck and it's in amazing condition and I'm just wondering if I should switch to synthetic or stick with conventional oil?
I'm going mobile one made in Germany (hexagon cap and the only real synthetic Mobil one makes) if synthetic
if conventional I was thinking about Pennzoil.
Any thoughts?

Also what about my oil change intervals if synthetic?
I hear that having a turbo makes it more important to change the oil frequently. However with the good synthetic you can definitely run more than 3000 miles if the engine has no issues.

Look into Amsoil. Imo better synthetics than Mobil 1.
I run strictly amsoil stuff in every car I own.

For the engine try Sig. Series. 5-30w

Don't run synthetic in vehicles not designed for it. Follow the manufactures directions in your manual with your favorite brand. I personally don't care for wax based oils like penzoil.
My truck has 250K miles on it and burns oil, I run Mobile one conventional in 15/40 because it's high in detergent for deisel engines and I can buy it in bulk at Costco.

any engine can benefit from the lubrication and detergents of a synthetic oil, not to mention better cold and hot weather protection.

I can't say it's true of all situations, but in my experience synthetic oils in older engines tend to lead to gasket and seal deterioration and cause oil leaks and excessive oil consumption. This may not be true of Toyota, but there's no real world advantage to running it in our older rigs either. Why not use what Toyota recommends for the production date and vehicle?

While you fill up your 25 yr old motor with synthetic, add a cold air intake while your at it:
Imo just run whatever TOYOTA recommends

I would be using Shell Rotella T6. It is popular in turbocharged applications as well as for older engines. The 22RET is both of those so it seems fitting.
