My cousin is moving from ca to indiana next week and she just sold me her 98 4runner limited. She was interested in purchasing a new car and taking it to indiana but she decided to sell it to me instead, One dealer offered her 7K on trade and another one (dodge dealer) offered her 6K for the truck. She finally decided that she would buy her new vehicle after she moved and she sold me her black 98 4runner limited for $8,000 . I think I got one hell of a deal, or did I not? The truck is fully loaded but its got 139K miles on it and it should get a new timing belt, plugs, wires, and h20 pump. Does anybody know how much I am looking at for that work at a toyota dealer?

welcome and congrats on your new 4runner, your going to love it. thats a great edition too, the black ltd. It sounds like you got a pretty fair deal, if all that has to be replaced and it has that many miles on it. Im not sure how handy you are but it would be alot less expensive if you bought the parts yourself and installed them and youll learn a lot about your truck. Also to get a better idea go to your local automotive parts store and check out the prices or call and get a quote from toyota(prob wont be cheap)

plugs and wires i would do yourself if you could. you would save a ton of money. i know new plugs including labor is easily 70 bucks. not sure about wires. timing belt with labor is around 180, not sure about the water pump. IMO its worth having the timing belt and water pump changed by the mechanic because if the timing belt is not exactly to spec, it will screw everything up. it also requires a special puller to pull off the drive pulley, so to me its just worth it to let them do it. that way if it gets screwed up, its their bad. but dont neccessarily take it to a Toytoa dealer either. i thought the same thing, but in the end, it took them 2 weeks to fix something that could have been done in 2 days, and they fcked a bunch of things up in the process. find someone you trust to do it, and go with them. i would not reccomend going to toyota unless you know they are good.

Congrats on becoming a 4Runner owner... you'll be very happy with your new "Toy".

I also have a black 98, but not a Limited. After buying my 4Runner, I'll never buy another "car" (for myself) again. Driving a truck and having the ability to wheel is way too fun!

Welcome aboard.
