I just hit the MOTHER LOAD!

Forgive my excitement!

Into: My wife's 4Runner just became my 4Runner. She just took a new job that has a 30-40 min. commute each way, so she is now driving the car (which I normally drive). In the past two years I have really only driven the 4Runner for weekend stuff (mountain biking, camping, hauling stuff around).

Since I have now have the 4Runner...I figured I might as well spruce it up a bit!

I found a guy on Yota Tech who lives here in the Phoenix area who was selling some off road accessories that came with his 01' 4Runner sport.

So....to the point!

For $50!!!! I just bought the black brush guard and tail light cover of the 4Runner Sport! As if that deal wasn't good enough, while I was in his garage getting the stuff out, I noticed a couple of Nerf style runner board/ rock sliders sitting in the corner and inquired. He said if I wanted to take those I could have them for free!!! Bolt on to boot...he custom fabricated mounts so they can bolt up to the frame without welding.

Talk about $50 well spent!!!! Two months ago I couldn't get a tank of gas for $50...now I have a bunch of fun add ons to make the 4Runner look like it's made to go off road!!!

Anyways, I had to share with someone...the wife doesn't understand!

I'd leave the nerf bars off if you are planning on any real off roading unless they're real sliders but they don't sound like it.

I'd sell the brush guard too if you really off road since they do more damage to the front if you hit something low and they decrease approach angles.

You could get $150 for the guard at least and maybe anohter hundred for the nerf bars and put some real off road protection on your Runner unless you're just going for looks then $50 was a steal.

I hate to admit it among this hard core 4x4 crowd...but at this point. I think looks is the goal. The truck has gotten me to all the places I have needed it to with nothing more than slightly large tires. I know I can sell this brush guard down the road for profit...no problem there. The nerf bars are metal and the guy who gave them to me told me that they aren't considered sliders, but obviously offer more protection that my stock running boards. I also like the look of the black nerf bars a little better.

Those nerf bars will bend just like the running boards and if you do hit something hard they will bend into the body so be careful but if you really aren't off roading to that extreme then slap 'em on.

WOW what a project!

Turns out the $50 deal came with a bit of a hitch. The brackets for the bottom of the brush guard were missing.

Thanks the GOOD LORD my buddy Neal works at a machine shop! We just got done....3 hours later, fabricating the missing brackets.

We mocked up the brush guard took measurements and grabbed some scrape steel plate out of the yard.

Long story short, it's done....somehow, it's done.

The 4Runner is FILTHY from a monsoon we had a few days ago, and it's dark outside, but I had to show the work. I will see if I can get a shot of the brackets tomorrow. They aren't pretty by any means, but they work and you can't see them unless your under the truck looking.
