Like so many things, there isn't actually a true answer to this. I have an 89 FJ62, have had it for 18 years. That doesn't make me the authority, but this is what I've seen. The FJ80 was introduced in late 89 in Japan and was sold as a 1990 model in the states. The 60 series was produced through 1990 in Japan, and through 92 in South America. I think you won't find many 1990 62's, although they do exist. You also won't find many 1990 80 series because they didn't ramp up production fast enough, and they really didn't become popular right away.
Wikipedia says the 60 series was 80-89 and the 80 was 90-97. Also Spectre Off Road who has a long standing relationship with Araco(Land Cruiser body builder) in Japan, shows the 60 series ending in 89 and the 80 series starting in 90.

I was just pointing out your dates were all jacked up.
You said the 62 was 87-89. But the 62 was 88-90. Then you said the fj80 was 91 on. Which is correct for US. But then you went on how the 80 was made in 90 as well. Which is correct for overseas.
eace:Nope, not what I said. 80 series was produced in 90 AND sold in the states, that is what I said. As for the numbers being jacked up, I wasn't specifying US sales, I was being literal. I do think there were more 1990 62's than I originally thought though. I was being too literal, but no matter. In 18 years of ownership I've run across a lot of other 62's, not a single 1990 among them. Again, that is jut me. Keep up the critical thinking! I don't like misinformation any more than you do.
The 62 was never made in 87. As stated in your original post The last 60s were made in 87. I see plenty of 90 62s running around and on Craigslist
