I searched the other night and then again but cannot find what I am looking for. I wouldn't have posted if I didn't search first. It's probably right under my nose but I just don't see it.

Don't the V6's already use the YZZD3 Filters that go on the V8's anyways? Or are you talking about the "Supra" filters?
Correct. The YZZD3 is the filter I use on my V6. The 20004 is also known as the supra filter. You won't find it at most dealerships.

So whats the verdict here, does it even matter since they are all Toyota branded? how much better could the "supra" filter be compared to standard OEM if you change your oil regularly??
I feel like a little better flow can be expected but I doubt that it will be a big difference.

I believe someone actually cut the two filters open and notice a difference in filtering material and slightly different baffle/mesh cage construction. I forgot where I saw the thread.

whats your take BlackWorks? I have seen the fram filter cut open and srsly will not be buying any more of those but from what I remember the Toyota OEM he cut open was just as good as the premium brands.
As a tech have you seen ANY issues with oil filters and Toyota's... are toy's more picky about which you use (IE. flow and pressure issues.)

I like our OEM Filters, they seem well built and are really well designed. I have never seen one fail in any way over the years (even the newer canister style ones. I remember the older Mercedes and BMW canister filter elements literally crumbling sometimes when you go to replace them) or even the o-ring sticking to the pedestal (I love they come pre-lubed.) Nor have my older co-workers really remember ever seeing one fail mechanically, or not filter properly or become a restriction in the system.
But then again, I'm sure the same is true of premium oil filters also, so its a hard comparison.
Different, yes. Better - probably. Does it warranty special ordering it on the internet? Probably not. The only way to know how much better would be for someone to run each and then do oil analysis afterwards.

The 20004 filters are what our trucks shipped with from the factory and only supposed to be available from Japan although American Toyota in Albuquerque offers them. These filters use a special felt type filter element and have a thicker metal case supposedly to withstand a machine installation. I purchased 20 of them when I got my truck and the UOA's are great. The YZZD3 is also very good but are made in Taiwan, I just like running JDM.
