I love my 4Runner too much to sell it

I've had my '04 4runner since new. I did a suspension, tires and brake overhaul last September. The truck has 110,000 miles on it. All of those miles have been carefree. I've had many great road trips with this vehicle. For the past 15 months my wife has been pushing hard for an Escalade when her lease on her car was up. The car, a G35x Sport just went back to the dealer after a 39 month lease. It was a great car with awesome power and options. Nice 20.5 mpg fuel economy. Now I caved in and bought her a used 2008 Escalade gas hog(12.6 avg mph).

Facing the idea of owning 2 SUV's and no sedan, I thought of selling my 4Runner:cry2: I bought new mats, detailed it in and out, researched a reasonable asking price, but in the end. "No Way AM I SELLING". I am keeping my MAN TRUCK. It's too good of a vehicle to say goodbye to. I can't get by with just a car, and she's not going to be happy if I'm mucking up her Escalady on all my hunting trips.

If I ever replace this truck, it will be with a newer 4Runner.:

She'll never realize it.
The problem is I am all about practicality and function, and she's about snob and curb appeal.

We'll see which vehicle winds up in the shop first. 110,000 mile Toyota VS. 38,000 mile Cadil"log".

Has she driven an Escalade yet? If not, take her to just drive one. They feel like old Cadillac's, very floaty with squishy brakes and a lot of play in the steering. It has nothing on the 4runner.

On another note, that's so odd you mention the G35. I am contemplating the Coupe as a daily in a few months. I drove one a few weekends ago and loved it more than I thought I would.

The Escalady is a done deal. A Navy Luxury edition sitting in the driveway.
By the way, the Escalade forum is pathetic. Maybe 20 active members, but if you subtract the ones that want to "lower" their ride, you can reduce that to 15 active members.

I had an '08 G35x, awesome car. Great performance, nice features. I loved the push button start and the no key access. I was surprised when Infiniti brought out the 3.7 litre in '09. It seemed to have plenty of power with the 3.5, and I've had fast cars in the past, so I'm not easily impressed with modest power. The car was AWD but not too great in the snow due to the High Performance speed tires. The low profile tires do not like potholes, I suffered a blow out at a low speed impact on a pothole, possibly the only negative in the 3 yrs I had the car.

110k miles on a 4runner is nothing. I would bet money the Escalade goes to the shop first. I read in consumer reports that a 10 year old Lexus reported fewer problems-per-100 cars than a brand new Escalade.....I wish I could find the article.

Absolutely! Exactly what I was pushing for in the beginning. The problem is I love the 2007 model and I hate 2008+. I just can't stand the way they look. I conceded with my wife that we could use a bigger truck than the 4Runner, mostly because my hunting dog takes a big crate in the cargo area. I really would have gone for a used 2007 Sequoia limited with low miles, but she wasn't giving up on the Escaload.

Too bad Toyota ruined the Sequoia with the newer design in '08.

Funny, I have an 04 G35C as my daily driver cuz my S/C'd V8 4Runner is a gas guzzler w/ 33" tires, lift, etc. But, I have a disease where I cannot leave it alone. I just purchased a vortech s/c for my G, which should put me at about 380-400whp. Can't wait.

I love them both, wouldn't know which one to sell if I had to. They are so different they compliment each other nicely!

a gx460 is a nice alternative as well :driving::naughty:

i actually like the new sequoia look but i think its something that grows on you.

the blizzard pearl sequioa was something i was considering before buying the 5th gen.

Those things stopped having "curb appeal" about 7 or 8 yrs ago. Now they are just tacky and with the tanking resale value they are driven around here by EBT carrying folk and parked in apartment complex lots. I drive a GSA Tahoe every day at work. We get new ones every 3 yrs. The 2010s I drive have a different CEL light every day, squeaks, airbag warning, rattles, clunks, head tossing ride and tons of wasted space. :bravo:

I had the same situation as you. My 05 V8 needed the big 90k service and I had the foolish question "is it worth fixing it?" After a few days, I slapped myself on the head and brought it in for service. I still love this truck the same way I did on the first day. Good call
