A 2010, 2015, and two 2020's. Original owner of all. I'd have to look at the odo's. The newest is less than 100 miles.
Likelihood of that being sold in US? While I've always like the look of a Defender, the reality of one is another story. I'm not sure I would take a notoriously unreliable vehicle and pair it with a notoriously expensive to maintain vehicle and call it good. But hey, more power to them.
I'm not sure what's funny. You asked, I answered. The newest was picked up on monday.
I've owned 10 others over the years. All fun. No real issues with any of them.
I worked as a Master Tech at one time. Still have all my tools, have kept up on any new developments since I got out of consumer car repair, still have many friends in the field. My point is I know how to maintain a vehicle so it likely won't become problematic.
One of the places I worked was at a Toyota dealer. Which is where I learned to appreciate Toyota vehicles. I've owned a bunch of those too.
Would you have picked a turbo BMW for a land-rover type powertrain?
I would not. I would pick something popular, reliable, and readily serviceable in remote areas. I am not a Toyota fanboy, but seems like a Land Cruiser engine would have been a much better choice for this application.
Turbos are not the deciding factor for me. The new BMW we picked up this week is a twin-turbo.
The Landcruiser is available with a Turbodiesel in most other markets. If those Landcruisers were available here, I'd own one.
I owned a fleet of class 6-8 trucks in a past business. All turbocharged. No issues with the Turbos.
In my past career as a Master Tech, a Turbo was rarely a cause of problems by itself.
