I must be missing a piece to my antenna?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and new to 4runners. I've had my '97 4runner for a couple weeks and all of a sudden last night when I turned on the radio the antenna went up and the metal part (the part that slides up) came all the way out. The whole this is still attached to the plastic line with teeth. I searched on here and found a lot of threads about the plastic line getting striped or broken, but nothing about the metal piece becoming unattached. I was able to have it pull it in when someone else turned the radio on, but the same thing would happen when the radio was turned on again. I figure there must be a piece that has fallen off or something. I noticed that the black plastic piece is that you see in the picture is loose. If it is a piece that has fallen off, can someone give me the name of the piece that fell off or the part number? Any help would be much appreciated.

Dont mean to jack the thread, but I have been thinking about replacing my antenna with a short rubber one, similar to some I have been reading about in a thread on here for the 5th Gen's. Anyone using a short, non power antenna on their 3rd Gen?

It looks like you are missing the antenna nut.

All u have to do is get the non-motorized antenna from the dealership and purchase the short antenna and screw it in. Im pretty sure the short antenna comes from the newer stangs... I thought bout getting this for my runner but i ended up getting the tacoma whip after much deliberation.

i couldnt find the part number for the metal piece but this is what it will look like...

Just dropped by the dealer and had the part ordered. Incase anyone else has the same issue, the part number is 8639689102 and it cost 16.66+tax.

wow almost 17 dollars i got a whole antenna set up off a tacoma for 10 dollars at the junk yard

I know it's a lot. I'll have to look into junk yards in my area incase I need to replace parts like this in the future.
