I need a new shift knob - TRD? or ...?

The leather shifter knob on my 2004 Limited is coming apart and I really need a replacement. I'm having a tough time finding something that seems to fit, from the online descriptions.

I'd probably even be happy with the OEM shifter if I knew the part number.

But for the TRD, the closest I've found is part # PTR51-00110 which says it'll fit the 05+ Tacoma. Aren't these things universally threaded?

Anyone know the correct part number for something that will fit an early 4th gen 4runner?

I had the same issue with mine...I went to the local pick a part and looked for Toyotas with shift knobs. Found a nice OEM shift knob on a newer RAV4 that fits and looks like the OEM knob but it's not completely leather. It has a machined portion (plastic) and the rest is wrapped in leather. Total cost=$7 bucks....I also found a newer 5th Gen knob but they don't work since the threads are longer. I would check that out first if you have one in your area!
 
You guys ever looked at Ellis Precision...?

Joel is great and he makes some sick stuff.

He's working on a 4th gen shifter for me and he's almost got it done....

I have the TRD knob you mentioned. I love it. Almost all shift knobs are of the same thread pitch and size.

That is his biggest hurdle.....It is a 2 pc shifter, the bottom pc and the top pc are separate....you can set the height of both pcs to any position you want on the shaft with a couple turns....

He doesn't want to make the base any narrower or it will make the top look out of place...

If you must get down to first, it's easy to change the position.
 
The Ellis Precision may be a bit much for me. I'd be happy with something as close to stock as possible.

I agree with you. My replacement is not as tall as the factory knob, which helped reduce the ample height (imho) of the factory knob, a positive unintended outcome in my book.
