I need a s/c ECU- anyone?

I need a different ECU for my 04 V8 4Runner. I have the ECU from the 03, but need the one for the 04.

Here is the info.

ECU# 1762-633
Mapping: U6A TC4 4RUN 47040

If anyone has one from a s/c they pulled or aren't using, I'd be very interested if we can work something out.

I also have the 03 if anyone wants to trade ECUs. (The 04 4Runner requires the map above, the 03 works with the one in the 03 kit I just purchase as NOS)

Please post or PM any thoughts or possibilities.

Thanks!

Do you need it because you are supercharging? What kind of S/C are you using? How much boost? You may want to give Underdog Racing a call or go to their website URDUSA.com that is where I got my PSC1-001 (see signature), where I adjusted air/fuel ratio. It has a built in MAP sensor also which allows it to piggyback over the ECU to tune the timing and A/F ratio.

If you don't find the ECU you are looking for you should take a look at them.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, I found a TRD 03 V8 NOS from a dealer. I spoke with TRD and he told me that the fuel map is different between 03 and 04 and that's where I got the map number and such for the ECU.

I'm not sure what boost, whatever is "stock" for the TRD.

The piggyback remappers are a fallback position, though I have to admit, I am not an expert in that area and it concerns me a little bit.

The one you are mentioning is similar to the one we put on the Chevy truck a short while ago (MAP sensor conditioner, plus, it had a piggyback fuel pump, too)

How much was the one you have, and how much trouble was it?

I'm not looking for massive power, just something to smooth out the dead spots and help with towing up hills.

Ok, Ok, 0-100mph in 1.5 seconds sounds like a lot of fun :), but I can wait an extra second or so :D

If I were you I wouldn't be hesitant one bit about the URD piggy backs. I know that phrase (piggy back) has gotten alot of bad press around the automotive tuning world, but URD specializes in Toyota ECU's. I believe the PSC1-001 is exactly what you are looking for. It is a simple device that conditions the signal from the O2 sensors and "tricks" the computer into changing the A/F mixture, so the ECU acutally still controls the fuel its just getting a slightly different signal than is originally sent from the O2 sensor and this makes it ideal for tuning A/F ratios throughout the rpm range -- fuel maps. The people at URD can tell you more about it, but the MAP sensor on the PSC makes it ideal for supercharged applications and the best thing is you can keep your stock ECU. Just install it, put it on a dyno and custom tune to a safe but efficient air/fuel ratio map. One other thing, by tuning the fuel map on a dyno and not using preset fuel maps (like the ones that come in the special ECU's) you get a better more efficient and safer tune because it is specific to your vehicle and climate. It may be a little more expensive to tune but trust me, the results are ideal.

I paid about $250 for the PSC1-001 and about $200 for installation and dyno tune. The unit itself is very simple it just taps into a couple wires from the ECU harness, very "non-invasive" Good Luck!!

P.S - Make sure you double check everything I said with a rep at URD, they obviously know alot more than I do... :D

Outrunner,

I think I need a different one... The TRD s/c comes with 2 additional injectors built into the unit and would have to control and sync those with the stock...correct?

If I can't get the correct TRD one, I'll consider other options, but at least initially, I'd like to find the correct piggyback ECU.

Anyone know a way to burn a new set of codes to the TRD unit?

Thanks.

The URD unit can control up to 10 injectors, I'd at least give them a call...

Best of luck :D

Thanks, OutRunner, looks like I'll need a good dosage of luck :)

This is why we have to just bite the bullet and learn how to do this stuff ourselves. The "ready made products" just aren't ready, complete, or available... :(

I appreciate all the help from all the people here. RXvedub has been a real help, too (man, that guy knows his stuff!)

I hope ya'll don't mind all the Q's...I'm learning as quickly as this old sponge can handle it :D

Still working the first option (correct TRD ECU), but want info on the other backup solutions, too.

Split Sec/URD is the Bomb!

The other option which I have yet to install is the FTC1 (a combination of the above PSC(for the SC it is a AIC) and TMC - fuel and timing controller which URD has custom built for my application. Expensive, about $500, but it will maximize your gains as well as properly utilize the SC across the entire RPM band. It has two plugs for the dual injectors and wires to manipulate timing for the TMC (Timing Map Controller).

For your best bet economically and power if you were going to choose the A/F or the timing, choose the A/F and have URD or Split Second get you the AIC (Additional Injector Controller) for about $200 and have the A/F properly tuned.
