True! I have used the Fiskars long handle, it is a nice all-round inexpensive axe, in reality not everyone wants/needs something like a Council Tool or other. I personally didn't like the weight, the handle is too light. I prefer wood handles more-or-less for... yes beauty of metal craft, more-so for dampening and repairability. You can pass that axe down to your great-grandchildren or you can just throw away a Fiskars if/when it breaks and buy a new one.

It's interesting how preferences differ between people. I love the super light handle because it puts all the weight at the end. This allows for a lighter head which you can swing faster creating more striking force.
The same could be said for just about everything else we put inside or outside our 4runners. 10 different front bumpers that all more or less do the same thing, but you have a favorite and mine is probably different
I do kinda dig that all black one, may have to try and find one in person, thanks for the link!

I believe they discontinued them a year or two ago because the market for felling axes is quite small compared to splitting axes. Everyone's lazy and uses chainsaws now.
You can still get them on Amazon, though, and if you have Prime there are free returns.

For sure! I believe it also depends on what you main intention of usage is too. We are talking about a hatchet, not an axe. Nearly any hatchet can get hatchet work done, small stuff.

As some have stated I am also inclined to carry a saw before an axe.
More specifically a Silky saw. More specifically still, a Silky Katanaboy 650 and a Silky Ultra Accel straight blade saw.
Unless you intend to cut things bigger than 10 or 12 inches the Katanaboy will blast through anything 10 times as fast as most normal people with an axe.
I use the Accel for everything else.
if you need to split wood I suppose a saw is useless but if you are working with smaller stuff that you would likely use to get a fire going then batoning with a decent medium knife will do the trick.
Having said all of that I do still have an axe that I love.
I bought the Hultafors Classic Hunters Axe and built a sheath for it because the one that came with it sucked.
I would put it up against any comparable Grunsfors or Wetterlings axe any day and generally you can find them for $30 or $40 less than either of those brands.

Locks up tightly, no play, all metal, to my mind the best folding pruning saw made.
Perfect size, disappears in a backpack, small enough to carry in your pants pocket. I have cut 6" diameter Australian Pines in less than 2 minutes, which is completely bananas, not what a pruning saw was made to do, but...
The Super Accel has a metal body, strong enough for pro nursery work, can't recommend it enough. Blade change is a snap, and yes, you can actually get replacements.
A.M. Leonard is the only retailer I could find, not cheap, made in Japan, about $45, but it's the last one you will have to buy.
For hunting, clears lanes of fire in a second, cuts enough brush to break up your silhouette is a second, quietly, no chopping…
Sometimes you just need to cut ONE branch for your camp.
Perfect for your spotter walking an old trail that has overgrown slightly, carry it in your back pocket all day.
Keep one in my 4Runner box, with my jumpers, tie-wraps, hatchet, para-cord, Gorilla Tape, JB Weld…
