I CANNOT FIND ENOUGH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS!

Im trying to replace my rear bushings but CANNOT remove the hub that is over the bushing.

I read many write ups, I spent 320$ on parts at toyota today and CANNOT take it to a shop.

I im trying the method of slamming it agianst the ground. But CANNOT get it to budge.

What am I missing? I removed the lock ring behind the abs gear but CANNOT get the rest to budge.

PLEASE HELP

If you are trying to replace the rear bearing or the outer dust seal, you will need to press the bearing and ABS ring off. You will need a press, not slamming it on the ground.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY WITH THIS TYPE OF COMMENT

I have heard of it being done this way many times, Im sure it works just wondering if Im doing something wrong. Id like to know how the parts come off.

I am attempting to remove the brake assembly off of the bearing so it should slide right off and past everything else correct?

PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO GO TO A SHOP. I WAS LAID OFF TODAY.

Whtever.

I figured out that the break backing does NOT slide past the barring and abs gear. I got the retaining bushing and abs gear to move. Almost got it off the shaft, using heat. I know don't heat the axle.

Anyway I'm trying my best to not cut the abs and retaining bushing off. I don't want to spend any more than I have to.

Those parts have to be cut off and yes, you need a press to do the job properly. The backing plate also has to be pressed off and can sometimes be damaged during the process. A machine shop could do the whole job for well under $300 otd. Ask me how I know

Very sorry about the job situation but having done that method once twenty years ago on a Trooper let me tell you that whatever the shop wants to use a press is worth it. I used a hammer and block of wood for hours and got the job done but my hands hurt for a week. There is a lot of potential to damage the shaft since the splines are on the ground or concrete. Take the advice and use a press. Done is minutes. Also the re-installation requires a lot of precision and you aren't going to get that with brute force.

Since you have the parts, a good machine shop should be able to cut the old ones off and press the new ones on.
Yes, you have to cut the ABS ring off. I didn't like it either, but it had to be done.

I only paid the shop $50 for their 20 min. of work.

Call around your area. $300 for the press time is highway robbery.

OR

Go to Harbor Freight and pick up their largest press. I think it is like $150. and you will still have the press for when you need to do the other side, and other press jobs for your friends :bluejump:

Good luck :)

Wait a tick... Just wondering how you get off asking for help and then yelling at them about the comments they leave? Let us know how damaged your rears get from smashing them on the ground! :bravo:
