I need new tires... HELP PLEASE

I want a set of great tires. What has everyone here used that is proven? I don't want any offroading tires. I want stylish tires that are quiet and handle well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have had it up to my head with these cheap Dunflops !!!!

Read the threads about this subject.....you'll see the general consensus is Revos or one of the Goodyear tires (can't remember the name offhand, but you'll see it when you read the threads).

By my signature, you'll see I'm a bit biased.

i think a lot of this board is biased actually. depends what you really want from the tires?

all-terrain? i know you said not off roading, but you still may want at's. or do you want a highway tire?

If you never off road then don't waste money on any kind of AT tire and just stick with something that suits your driving and consider all seasons where you live of course.

I can't believe all the people that NEVER go off the pavement and throw alot of money at a set of BFG ATs when they have no mileage warranty and their pavement manners in the wet and dry are so-so.

Michelin Crossterrains always get high marks for their On-Road performance.

yeah i have no use for offroading... i do alot of driving so i need something that handles well and sticks to the road so to say... i mean are there like any tires that someone here on the board has that they have been extremely happy with, on road wise that is?

my stock dueler h/t's do fairly well for on-road. i could hope for a little better wet traction.. my dad has the cross terrains on his and they do really well.. i wish i knew when i bought mine to look for those, but i didn't know to look for them til i joined this forum, and that wasn't after i bought mine.

i'm looking at getting a pair of at's myself, as i do plan to do some off-roading. probably light, nothing i'd need a lift for, but a light trail here and there would be fun..

you might have a look at the bridgestone dueler h/l alenza i put a set on my 02 and they're great. smooth, quiet and grippy in the rain. i believe its the "street version" of the revos

As mentioned, Michelin Cross Terrain for all-season. Even Michelin Pilot as a straight summer road tire (big money though.) Both are quiet tires that stick.

My 2006 Sport came with the dreaded Dunlops. I had Cross Terrains on my 2004 Ford Explorer and liked them. Tire Rack gives Cross Terrains highest marks. I was going to swap out my Dunlops for Michelin at time of delivery but my tire man wanted Dunlops and $500. Said he didn't get much call for the Dunlops and they were an odd size to boot. Only problem I had with Cross Terrains is that they are bad about picking up driveway gravel and slinging it into your wheel wells for the first 5 miles every morning. If you look at the tread of a Cross Terrain there are a series of very small holes in the tread. Every one of them on my tires had a very tiny piece of gravel stuck in the hole. They did not come out with driving and I always thought that whatever the purpose of the small holes was, it was probably negated by having a rock in every hole.

The Michelin LTX M/S is an excellent street tire. Long lasting, quiet and smooth as glass.

I had the LTX/MS Michelins on another Explorer and found them most satisfactory. Interestingly, the Michelin site rates the Cross Terrains higher for things like road noise, mileage, etc than they do the LTX. Maybe they've sold enough of the LTX and they need to move the Cross Terrains. That '96 Explorer had a strange paragraph in the owner's manual that said not to use any tire except an All Terrain tire on the vehicle, specifically not to use a M/S tire. I showed this to the dealer and to several tire dealers who had no explanation for it. My theory was the lawyers wrote it ,orried that someone would go off road with an M/S tire, blow the thing then sue Ford for another rollover.
