but for most of us its not.
I am considering having off road and then a set of on road tires and just swapping back and forth since I do so much on road travel

The Cooper's performed great. The first test was Rabbit Ears Pass. The road was slushy, with ice under. The ATR's handled it without a problem. Once in town, all roads were snow packed, traction control didn't kick once all weekend. That was a big change from the Dunlops. My wife even noticed a huge difference in the way the truck performed. That was probably the biggest endorsement the tires could get.
So, I'm sure that report doesn't help. The tires are perfect for what I do. Drive the mountains in winter, and fire roads in the summer. I don't take the truck off-roading. I'm sure the tires can handle it though.
I looked at the Goodyear SA's, but couldn't justify the gas mileage hit. Even the tire shop said he had complaints. I'll report on the gas mileage of the Cooper's once I get town/highway numbers. My mileage over the weekend was down slightly, but I was in 4WD all weekend.
I'm not saying buy Cooper's. I'm just saying they're working for me. Let me know if you have a specific question, I'll try to answer. Oh, the tires look awesome on the truck too!

You off-road in snow. You use your 4runner for daily drives. IMHO, there are only 2 true all-terrain tires that fit your habits: Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor and BFG AT KO. If you don't care too much about the snowflake symbol, then i would try Michelin LTX AT-2.
I got a feeling that you're going to be indecisive about this as you are about the 1" front lift!![]()
