I Need Urgent Help Here

I know i am new around here and you guys don't know me. I know i haven't posted a photo yet. But i was going to today after i finished washing and waxing my 4Runner. That is when it happened.
While waxing i noticed that it seemed i had the orange peel effect on my paint. It wasn't a mirrior image of me looking back, it was a blurred image. I then checked more closely and sure enough my entire brand new sport edition 4Runner has about 80% orange peel effect going on. This is what happens when a lousy repair shop does a rushed and shotty paint job, not factory.
Anyways, i immediately called Toyota and she said if it does indded have this problem my warranty will cover it. She informed me to head down to my local dealer so they can verify the problem.
Now my concern, supposedly the factory paint jobs are the best you can get...if they send me to an after market paint shop(which we know they will) i could end up with a much worse or inadequate paint job. What would you guys do? When you spend 35k on a new car you expect better then this. But i do not want to end up with even worse...if that where the case i could live with it. A friend of mine said what if a few years down the line i go to resell it, an guy who knows cars will think my car was in an accident and i had crappy work done. HELP>>>has this happened to anyone else????????

Don't worry about the guy thinking it was in a accident a Carfax report will solve that.

What was the build date on your 4Runner?.

If it is brand new I was always told not to wax right away, but to wait a while before you wax it.

As far as the paint shop just make sure it meets your approval or else call Toyota's customer care rep.

Well Toyota sent a guy from LA who is a paint specialist. He looked at my 4Runner tonight. He said while mine does seem to show more orange peel then most, he says it is because it is black. We walked the car lot and believe it or not, every darn car on the lot had some kind of orange peel effect going on. Especially the darker colored cars.
While i was waiting on this guy to come i drove over to the best auto shop in town. They admit mine may show a little more orange peel then most. But they tell me all cars these days show some orange peel. He advised me to live with it...says the factory paint is the best and while they could try to get rid of it, he says there is no guarantee of it, he said it could even be worse.
So my bottom line is this, Toyota says if i really want to they will have someone local repaint the car, but they do not recommend it. The paint shop also does n't recommend it. So i guess i will just live with it.
One note however, as you may know i still have my burgundy/grey 1991 4Runner. When i got home i gave her a good look. No orange peel at all. I cannot believe that these companys cannot paint a car with no orange peel. Don't you think as much as these cars cost us that these companys would have a better paint process??

I have a 93 4Runner and my wife has a 02 Highlander and I think the paint on my 11 year old 4Runner looks better.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but don't they use a different type of paint on newer cars/trucks?.

Maybe this is where the problem lies?.

Orange peel is very common on new cars. Unless you get a Bentley or Rolls Royce (which undergo many wetsanding steps between each coat of paint), you're going to have orange peel. Even the new RR Phantom has some orange peel. Check out a new Mercedes S-Class and you'll be surprised at how much orange peel those have. The majority of people don't even notice it, but those of us that do usully ignore it and live with it. Some people go ahead and try to wetsand the clearcoat to minimize the effect, but that's a bit risky.

I would also stay away from the repaint.

I started a thread on this a few weeks back... I too have the black, and it does the same thing. It took about 3 hours to buff all the wax out so that it looked very mirrored again. I haven't washed it in about 3 weeks (just dusted) and it still looks like a brand new mirror.


So, I just decided to deal with it.

The first wax seems to be the worst. Its the price we have to pay for the sweet color of black!
