Hello All 
I've been lurking the forums for over two months now. Using all the info I could on a 1988 4Runner V6.
Long story short, I wasn't able to work for a bit, finances went to hell, and I needed a car, so my neighbor gave me an 88 4Runner he had, but wasn't using.
The truck was sitting for years and wasn't properly stored or maintained in that time so I had my work cut out for me. $1000 in parts (luckily I have a mechanic friend who gives me his cost on parts) and hours of labor (Did the labor myself, and I have access to all the tools I need) later I now have a reliable 4Runner.
Considering I got the truck for free and the engine is relatively new (it was swapped a while back with a 3VZE from an 89 Camry with 80,000 miles I believe). The truck itself has over 232,000 miles on it, but it runs pretty well.
It's a shame that they didn't throw in a 22RE when they swapped out the engine :/ But I don't think they knew any better.
There is still some work and maintanence that needs to be done (Spark plugs, fuel filter, transmission fluid filter, leaky valve covers, etc...) but I'll get them done here and there. And nothing that's keeping the truck from running.
Thanks for the wealth of information here. It's nice for a newb to come in and be able to fix most problems on his own.
Also one more thing, I took off the Enkei Wheels the truck came with and I'm trying to identify the model number. I made a post about it, if you're interested or have suggestions please check it out:
