I successfully blew my Rack+pinion - going to buy FZJ80 front axle this weekend.

Question is, where the hell do i get the adapter plate for the old style transfer case? the only one i can find keeps talking about the 3.0V6. I have the 3.4 obviously, and the R150F transmission.

do you mean RING and pinion?

im trying to figure out what a rack has to do with an axle swap.

im sick of IFS. thats what it has to do with it. there are 5 million freaking parts to fail.

a solid axle has so many fewer issues and is stout.

a new rack is 500+

why would i spend that on something im going to break again?

cool deal. im a big proponent for straight axle swaps.
i just wasnt getting the connection to that and a rack.

good luck, and take lots of pics!

i plan on getting everything ready and just doing it in a weekend. im using everything i can from the LX450 front axle asssembly including the springs, control arms, brakes, steering box. should be beast by the time im done. im so sick of breaking ****.

just last night i found myself drilling a broken cv axle shaft inside my front diff, tapping, pulling, and doing all this extra crap that could be easily avoided.

and for all the smack people talk about driving the SAS'd vehicles on the road. . . well my opinion is, its a damn truck, if you wanted a grocery getter than you shoulda bought one. i want to wheel w the best and not have my f-in panties in a bunch everytime something gets a little gnarly.

heres some pics from my fun awesome task last night.

A damn good idea I must say.

Keep us posted on how the LC swap goes. I've contemplated going this route when I decide to swap post graduation

My only word of advise is to plan on a lot more downtime than one weekend. Other than that, sounds like a great plan. I didn't know that the 80-series radius arm suspension was "swapable" that's kinda cool. I would probably go with tried-and true pickup rear leaf pack, but I guess I'm just old school :D

Maybe I've just had bad luck over the years wheeling leaf springs, but I either suffer with a terrible ride or have no flex by the time I get the height I want... If I ever do wind up going for a SAS myself, I'm running coils. I also want the furthest forward and back to be tires... another point that makes leaf springs difficult.

Cordray - I've been on this forum for a while and have never heard of this swap. Is it really something that can be done easily? What's required? Any welding? If it's so much easier and less expensive than swap that Addicted is doing then why don't more of us do it? What am I missing here?

i just happened to find a nice lexus lx450 front axle assembly for an excellent price.... and I figured i'd rather go as stock as possible. i would love to use the mini truck axle off an 84-85, but those are designed for leafs, and im striving for the least amount of fab work, not because i dont want to do it, just because i want to leave everything the way it was originally on the axle. I think it will work out just fine...

The down side to the mini axle is they are way too narrow IIRC 55" which means your looking at 2" spacers and the birfields are much smaller than the 80 axle. IMHO the 80 series axle is a much better choice.
