When I originally got my 2007 Sport , I immediately changed out the Dunlops for Dueler Revo's. I had previously had two sets of BFG At's on my Jeep, with one flat in almost 100k miles. The BFG's weren't available in the stock size for the 4Runner yet, so I went with the Duelers after much research.
I am on my second set of them now. They ride great, do great with the type of offroading I do, but I have never had so many problems with maintenance, nor have I ever been treated so poorly by a series of shops.
I constantly get flats and slow leaks. All the time. Anything of any size with a point will go through these tires. And when I take them to either of three Firestone shops in my vicinity, I ALWAYS have to wait hours to get them fixed, and most of the time they will fix the tire and not rebalance it before giving it back to me.
My latest issue has been an impossible to fix slow leak, which was diagnosed to be wheel corrosion. I actually bought another set of wheels, and Firestone refused to put the tires on the new wheels. They flat out refused, stating it is against their company policy. I went to another shop to get it done, and was told I didn't really need new wheels, the corrosion isn't that bad. Supposedly a small hole was patched as well.
Tonight I was getting off work, and lo and behold, my tire, a different one, is losing air! I am dreading going to firestone to get it fixed, and am thinking of just going the the fly by night place down the street from me to get it fixed till I get new tires.
I am so sick of this crap, and the terrible experience of getting the problems corrected. And the only reason I'm on my second set is because last year I had a blowout at 60mph from a piece of broken metal on the road. I ended up buying a new tire to match the one they replaced under warranty, and eventually got two more because I was told they were being discontinued and wanted a set of four with similar wear.
I think I'm going back to BFG AT KO's. I would like to get them 265/70/17, but I may just get the stock size.
Sorry, I needed to vent. Hopefully the BFG's will perform as well on my 4Runner as they did on my XJ.
