I tried to pull a stump out...

My question is, did I potentialy screw anything up on the 4unner?

I hooked a chain up to my hitch and wrapped it around the stump and let the chain get tight and then I gave it gas slowly. There was a couple of times that I tried to give it a little bit more gas before the chain got tight and it just STOPPED the runner. This is what I am worried about. Could I have screwed my hitch up? I checked all the bolts and they are tight and the hitch is still really tight. Am I just paranoid or what?

What are your thoughts?

You're just paranoid. I can't give you a 100% guarantee, but unless you bent something or heard bad noises from the drive train you should be fine.

Thanks, I thought I was just parnoid. Nothing was bent and there was no unsual noises from the drive train, It is driving like normal. Thanks for the reasurance!
 
Were your tires on dry land?? Your tires didn't slip/spin when you pulled the stump??

You should be OK. The hitch should be the last of your worries. Your drivetrain should be OK too.

Next time, try using a diesel-powered F-Series truck for such tasks. I don't think I could ever do such a thing to my 4Runner.

You gotta yank it out. not pull slow. hook up the chains, make sure they are good and secure. put it in low, hit the gas, yank it out.
you will not hurt, done it many times.

Okay, I wasn't sure if I would hurt anything by doing that.

No, I was on dirt and my tires did spin. I'm sure that everything is fine. Just don't want to screw anything up.
 
I guess I'm missing the point , you say it stopped the truck ?????

Shutdown ?? what exactly are you talking about ?

A reasonable amount of stump pulling should be no problem , but you have to use you head on what size your trying to attempt.
 
i think he's saying that the stump stopped that truck as far as progress.... no truck motion = non stump pullage.
that kinda thing would DEF take a yank if not two..... proly not pussy yanks either:(
Ive never tried to pull a stump with my truck but, if I had to YANK that hard im pretty sure id opt out.

i'd leave pulling out stumps and pulling down trees to the good ole boys in the super dookies (F2+....)
 
Depending on the size of the stump , I'd giver !

That what I mean about using your head on how big of stump your trying to attempt.

Not sure if this is good advice or not...personally, i would not use a chain, nor would i yank it as hard as you make it sound...but then again, i don't pull stump for a living nor claim to be an expert on it.

Yeah try an F-series....then when it doesnt work in 2WD you can put it in park, get out, manually lock the hubs and try again...I am way off topic but I cant for the life of me understand why they still have manual hubs!!! :bash:

I did not know that. I wonder if Chevy Silverado 2500 has it too?? If i were to buy a fullsize truck today, i would get the new Silverado 2500 (or GMC brother) with the diesel and 6-speed Allison tranny!:)
 
I wonder if this would be a good use for a snatch strap (a long one). Less force on vehicle and more yank on the stump.

Thai, as far as I know Ford is the only truck on the road with manual locking hubs. I know the Chevy, and Dodge for that matter, heavy duties are all push button. That is why I can't understand Super Duties are stuck in the early 80's.

My Dads '08 has 4X4 on the fly. I'm 99.9% sure. Maybe it's new for '08? He just bought a '08 F-350 Powerstroke ('08's are twin turbos!) 4X4, King W Ranch dually. It's a monster! And it should be for $56,000!

PLEASE make sure and put a large blanket or something heavy across the chain or cable about mid way down. This will instantly kill the kinetic energy of the chain if it were to break or slip off the stump. It can seriously hurt or even kill someone if the chain/cable comes flying forward without warning, not to mention screwing up your truck. Ask my buddy who aquired a nice DEEP chain rash in the tailgate of his new F-350 when the chain came off the palm tree. Damn near folded his license plate like a taco.
