I want ANOTHER 4runner!!!

Well, having a 4runner as my first car 12 years ago (a 1991), I thought it was puppy love... and never really considered another one. Since then, I've owned 2 jeep cherokees, 1 cadillac escalade, porsche carrera, navigator, 1996 4runner (i didnt like this one), and a couple more cars I probably don't remember.

The 1991 4runner was my favorite of ALL these cars and I want to get rid of my Navigator for a 4runner. I went to the dealer today and didn't know if I should get a Sport or a Limited. The guy didn't really know the difference other than suspension (which he had to look on the window sticker to find).

If I want to put mudterrain tires on it (and possible a 3' lift) which model do you recommend? Is there a good website to find pictures of 4runners with lifts?

And finally, when do you predict a new bodystyle 4runner will come out? My salesman was clueless on ALL questions about 4runners but at least he wasnt trying to get me to buy today.

If you plan on lifting, then i would stay away from XREAS system. This shock system is standard on SE models, and optional on Limited models (i think). I am not sure if you can get this separate, but i would get the self-leveling rear suspension (optional on Limited i think).

The 3rd gen 4runner lasted from 1996 to 2002. In 1999, there was a major makeover.

The 4th gen 4runner started in 2003. 2006 was the big makeover. So, if Toyota follow the same pattern, then 2009 will be the last year of the 4th gen.

2010 will be the first year of the 5th gen 4runner.

Isn't it amazing how dumb some salespeople are. It's not like they have to learn about hundreds of models. Just a dozen or so. Apparently even that's too hard for some. And they expect us to hand over tens of thousands of dollars to a nimrod??!

Sorry. OT I know. Yes, stay away from XREAS if you wanna play witht he suspension. However, XREAS is a great system is you just want to add a few spacers to lift it.

X-REAS is standard on all Sport Editions, not available on SR5. X-REAS is optional on Limiteds. On Limited V8s, the auto leveling air suspension can be added. You can get X-REAS on a Limited V8 without air suspension, but if you want air suspension you must have X-REAS too.

If you want to get the most options in lifting it's probably best to avoid X-REAS. X-REAS will limit your lifting options to spacers.
