Ok how much money do you have? Because you will need a LOT of it. Are you wanting to do a Heavy truck? A light truck? I would love to do it someday, but it is not in the cards right now.

Google redbull kamaz. These guys pound the crap out of these trucks. The ASO has restricted all of the vehicles in Dakar now, but in previous years, some of the t4 trucks { that is what class they are } had well over 1000 hp and 1500 ft lbs of torque, they would actually pass the cars and buggies in the flats, and had the power to plow threw the dunes with ease.
The trucks that are favored are KAMAZ, Man, Tatra, And Ivevo. Most run 12 to 18 liter diesel engines, leaf springs and coils with air bags and big shocks, there is a dutch truck that has independent suspension, but i do not remember the name.
They are impressive to say the least.
Dakar was fun this year, stay tuned, Robby Gordon will keep going back until he wins the overall.

During the 4th stage of the rally, Johnny Campbell had issues with his bike and was down for an hour, He said when he got going again, he found himself in the middle of Garbage truck race on a motorclce, He said he had no idea that those trucks could move like they do.

Earthroamer would get stuck in the first dune section. Earthroamer is no where near the same as the trucks in Dakar.

The bikes look like fun until you get launched of one.
Being one of only 3 guys who can legally dig out one of those trucks would just suck ass.

My BIL has run the Dakar twice and the Baja twice as well. Bike class though. He broke his pelvis on the second Dakar. Third in class at the Baja, not too shabby.
