Others trucks have them . I helped some people pull out a car tonite that went off the road an was high centered. There was 3 of us figuring out who was going to pull them out , an S-10 Blazer , Tahoe ( old style 04-06 ) and myself in the 4R , the 2 Chevys had factory , but nice hooks on the front.

We have tie down loops. These are a welded item and have been discussed in other threads. I personally would not use these as a tow point to jerk someone that is stuck plus they are small. I would prefer a proper tow hook (I smell a mod coming up.)

First off, when possible, always tow from the rear, either from rear tow hook or tow hitch. Backing up to get someone out may result in major issues with the front differential.
Secondly, i think that you guys are discounting too much on the front hooks. Are they not bolted/welded to the frame?? I can't remember clearly but my '02 4runner (3rd gen) tow hook was not much different than the 4th gen. So, i don't think that Toyota has changed the tow hook(s) from 3rd gen to 4th gen.

It would make a diff. to me if the next gen. was lower , and less off road worthy. I would not buy one if more electronic ( help me drive a 4x4 , because I don't know how ) devices are on it . The 4th gen. already has to much of that crap with the VSC and such.
As for the record , 3rd gen's have always been my favorite. Best stance of any of the gen's.

Just kidding, RonM. However, as pointed out many times before, your 3rd gen have it's negative points as well...and there are negative points about the 4th gen...but i doubt that any stock 3rd gen can spank the 4th gen off-road, nor vice versa.

You hate for the 4runner to be more "mall-friendly," yet you have your heart set on a Tahoe?! At what point did you think the 4runner will ever be less capable than a Tahoe??? You complained about your 4runner being too low and "too narrow" (????), yet the Tahoe is even lower (by a lot!) and is too damn wide for most trails! Oh yeah, it has the same electronics as4runner too! You're like a bag of contradiction!

And did you forget that the early 4Runners were solid front axle vehicles? I'm sure there were plent of people who felt that the 4Runner was losing its offroad roots when they switched to IFS. The same thing happen in the Jeep camp when they started going to IFS. Now look at them...they sell the Compass, for Pete's sake.
