Replaced new iac on 99 4 runner, but idle will not come down. It is idling around 1500. I was wondering if, new IAC is bad.

Is your throttle cable off from the pulley?

Did you let the engine to warm up to proper operating temperature?

Yes, that will happen, its normal when replacing it. Drive it for about 20 minutes, maybe less, and it will reset the system and return to normal.

Yup it's normal. Mines idled 1500 after disconnecting the battery cables for battery maintenance. Drove to the market and back then back home 8 mile total. Idling normally now at 750 after that.

Since this thread is simply named "IAC" in referenc to the idle air controller, I thought it best to post a generic question here to save the forum from being clogged with repeated questions in new posts.

I dismantled my Throttle bottle, cleaned it and took apart my IAC. the "air" portion just had the usual carbon build up but is still able to open and close with ease. The "coolant" side is caked with some kind of baked on green/orange/yellow crusty stuff that was very difficult to chip away. Also the gakset is broken and now leaks after being reassembled.

I would like to do 1 of 2 things:
1) New gasket for the IAC to stop the coolant leak
2) Bypass the IAC cooling system altogether

Option 2 seem very attractive to me since I live in a tropical climate where winter is 75 degrees and its summer year round.

Thoughts?

Thanks, -z

Assuming I choose to get a new gasket for the IAC, how should I go about getting all the heavy grit off of the two surfaces. Its pretty bad and of course i didnt take any pictures. Basically if I get a new seal i still think it will leak. Is it safe to sand the surfaces down to smooth?
