Ice and retractable antenna dont mix?

So, i was just wondering if anybody else has had a buildup of ice on the antenna, which usually gracefully retracts into its home, snap off? Hmm did to me, I would love to not be the only one. Usually branches and twigs gingerly scrape paint off or rocks just brush the surface to primer but this, damn.

Looking through my service records, mine was replaced by dealer before I bought it last month. After seeing all the issues on this forum, every week or so I spray a paper towel with WD40 and wipe the antennea up and down. My 08 didnt even have a mast antennea. It was in the window. Good luck with yours. They seem to be very fragile.

If it's still cold and it won't retract get some Brake Cleaner and spray the antenna when it's up. Then give the antenna a good spray with a penetrating oil... not WD-40, it isn't actually an oil. While it may be better than nothing and it's closer to being a solvent, it isn't an oil.

Our 2000 antenna suffered from that after a couple of years. Cleaned it and lubed it and it hasn't been an issue here in Wisconsin.

The motor still works(ed) its just that the ice didnt allow it to collapse the way it should so it broke because the ice hindered it from coming down in the appropriate fashion.

Oh, I thought you were saying it wouldn't go down because moisture was getting in through the stages of the antennae due to lack of lube. It sounds like the motor is dead? Sounds like a new antennae is in your future.

yeah the antenna (due to ice forming on the mast) is somewhere on I-5 after leaving the ski park. sweeeet.
