ice box - centre console

When I go on long road trips I find the centre console acts as a pretty good ice box/cooler. I turn the A/C on and switch the airflow so it passes the center console.

helps keeps the drinks a bit cooler

yep the center console is a great place for my extra beers on road trips  jk jk jk no drinking and driving

I've always wanted some way to keep my drinks ice cold when in the cup holders in the center. Maybe some sort of refrigeration system/coolant line that runs around the drink holder. Obviously it wouldn't be perfect, but I bet there's some way to get it to work!

I took a road trip yesterday to grab some speakers. By the time I got to my destination my drink was a bit warmer. Back in my dealership days, we used to get conversion trucks in that had cup cooler/warmers in them. They still have to be out there.

The only issue with running a miniature refrigeration system is going to be condensatio. But theoretically, you could run it around the cup holders and center console. But you would need to insulate both also. Its a cool project idea.

So I just went and gave it a shot. It works.

I took apart my console and cut a hole thru the back of the box and the front of the rear air duct. I kept the square I cut out to cover the hole when I'm not using it as a fridge.

AC on high, all vents open- 50°F after 5 mins.
AC on high, vents closed- 40° after 5 mins.

Tomorrow I will add foam tape to seal the lid better and get pics posted.
