Icon/Donahoe Nitrogen Refill Needle

Does anyone have the icon nitrogen refill needle I could borrow? I need to refill my nitrogen in my Donahoes/Icons with Nitrogen and no one near me has the fill needle. I could buy one, but I plan on installing resi's when I rebuild so I'd be spending $35 for a one time use. I'd pay shipping both ways and throw a couple of extra bucks your way for the trouble. If it gets broken I will replace it of course. :hatsoff:

How many miles do they have on them? Just curious how long I can hope mine will last, mine were rebuilt in December.

I have about 12k on them, but I'm not sure how many miles were on them before I got them. You should be fine, I'd say every 25-30k you should at least recharge them. Mine just feel flat so I'm sure they need them.

Isn't it a regular schrader valve.

FYI. when filling shocks on the truck, droop out your suspension and fill while drooped.

Nope unfortunately it's not. Icon uses a special needle to fill their coilovers with nitrogen. Kind of a PITA because you need this tool and I only need it once. I will probably end up having to buy it and sell it later, but I'd rather not front the money now. It's not needed with reservoirs and I plan on getting the CDC reservoirs when I rebuild.

Thanks for the tip, I have heard that before. Luckily the Nitrogen should be free since I'll be doing it at BAMF.

You can probably get the needle from poly performance.

Odd, fox and king use a regular old schrader valve.

Fox uses a Nitrogen needle on some of the vehicle specific replacement shocks. You can go to a motorcycle shop and have them filled since most bike shocks also use nitrogen needles to fill.

this will work to fill your shocks.

IMO if you can't float $30 to fill your shocks with nitrogen you should't have bought rebuildable shocks in the first place.

FYI rebuilds and oil changes should be 20,000 miles and nitrogen checks yearly.


When adding reservoirs to your current shocks what do you think your gaining? On a 3rd gen with 8" of travel there is no way you will over heat the shocks to need more oil capacity than what an external reservoir will give you.

Yeah DownSouthMotorsports has them and will probably just order from them.
I wish Icon just used the regular schrader valve, but no they have to be special...

I thought about that as well, but I can get it refilled for free at my friends shop, but we don't have the needle. Thanks for the link. It's just about the same price as the Icon one, but free shipping.

As I stated in the original post, it's not that I can't afford it, it's that I'd rather not spend $35 for a part I need once. I plan on rebuilding them this year and I won't need the tool then. Just doesn't make sense to shell out $35 if I can borrow one from someone. Do you float $35 for a tool you'll use once if you can borrow one from a friend instead?

I agree, but I'm getting the CDC reservoirs. They allow you to adjust the firmness and softness of the ride based on my preference. For $260 it's more than worth it IMO.
