Icon Omega Shocks

So for about 2 or 3 years now I've been running the Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2.5" Piggy Back Reservoir Shocks. They are a great shock, super smooth ride both on and off road. Well recently I had a 4x4 Labs bumper installed. Immediately I noticed that the valving was just too soft for the additional weight. This was affecting rebound much more than compression. So I contacted Jeremy at IVD and spoke to him about the situation. He had Scott (one of their shock techs) drive my 4Runner through their "test course". And he noticed right away that rebound was just to soft for all the added weight. They said that there would be no problem at all re-valving the shocks to compensate for the additional 200-250lbs hanging over the back end (bumper, spare, gas and water).

Well.. before I decided to drop off the shocks, I remembered something Jeremy showed me about a year ago.. a project they were working on, but wasn't finished at the time. Their Omega Series 2.5" Dual-Bypass Shocks. Well, Jeremy said they are available for the FJs, but he hasn't tried them on the 4Runner yet. Scott took some measurements and after a few weeks, I now have these setup for the 4Runner. The nice thing about these (other than the amazing build quality) is the adjustable valving. I will be able to tune the shocks depending on surface and how much weight I'm carrying in the back. There are 23 levels and the knob is adjustable without tools and you can adjust rebound and compression independently of each other. The knob is detented, meaning it clicks into place so you know exactly where to turn it depending on the need (so I can maybe have 15 clicks for whoops, or 10 clicks for the street.. etc..). Below are pics of the shocks, and pics of them installed on my 4Runner.

I had a chance to run with them this past weekend during the Bodie trip. So far they are much better at handling the weight of the bumper, but I still need to tune them a bit more. I'll post up again once, I have them dialed in.

Yeah.. they are pretty nice, slowly but surely getting them dialed in (at least for the street).

So what's that saying?? if you have to ask... :lmao:

They were pricy (as is any bypass shock). Since they were the first set and somewhat of a custom build I'm not sure what the final price will be or if they'll come to market. I'll try and get more info for you on this.

Yeah...a double bypass with Icons' name on them...figured you'd need to finance them to get your hands on some.

Well, MSRP on the FJ version of the omega series shocks are $890. I'm going to assume that the 4Runner version would be about the same if they come out with it for retail.

I have the Icon billet aluminum lower control arms in the rear.
