Icon Suspension

I pulled the trigger and ordered Icon stage 4 suspension for my Trail Edition. Should be here in a few weeks and installed shortly there after. :D

I know this thread is useless without pics, but I needed to share with someone. In the interest of keeping everyone happy, here is what I got and what will be going in:

My wife knew something was up and rushed into my office while I was on the phone...she mouthed "what are you ordering?" I responded by flapping my elbows (not sure how that represents stage 4 suspension, but she knew what I got), then she sh*t!!! A ton of "I love you babe" for the next hour to cool her down. Oh well...its worth it. :naughty:

Wow, stage 4 !!!!CONGRATS!

Way to step up. I was on the phone today shopping for a Icon stage 1 kit and the Light Racing UCA's.

Can't get a straight answer if the UCA's for the 5ths are the same as the 4th Gens. Where did you buy, straight from Icon? Toytec and Demello Offroad sell them.

I was going to wait for FOX,King or Radflow to come up with specific valving kits for the 5th Gens. but grew tired of waiting. I saw that ICON officially announced them for the 5ths recently.

Haha, soothing over the significant other after a big purchase is always a fun time. I built a new Cannondale last year out of the blue and had to do the "i'm sorry" dance. She still reminds me that I said I'd want nothing else last year after the bike.

Can't wait to see the T4R w/ the suspension.

Bought straight from Icon, because I'm in Canada, there is no one distributing in my area. I've also bought straight from them before. The UCAs Icon is offering are the same as they sell for the 4th gen. The only difference are spacers for the skid plate and spacers for the sway bar. Valving should be pretty close too, if not the same.

I went the route last time of getting this bit from this guy, and that bit from that guy, and not liking something and upgrading one bit from another guy...enough of that. I was happy with the Icons on my previous rig, and thought why not do it all at once the right way. All this stuff is built for eachother and proven to work together.

Nice....what was the damage on that?

My wife not talking to me and probably a night's sleep on the couch:happens:. I leave for a 4 day trip tomorrow early so I'll get a king bed the three nights after, one night on the couch ain't that bad. Financially about $3300 (I already had some parts to complete the stage 4 in my garage, it never went on my last rig so I'll use it on this one).

Over almost 20 years of marriage, I've found that preventative maintenance via the local jeweler can prevent extended stays at Chateau Bowow.

So jealous.

Congrats!!!!!!! Let us know how you like after the install. I am saving my pennies for some front coilovers and new UCA's.

Cant wait to see some photos.

SICK!!!!
Cant wait to see your rig built. Please take great shots of the build, esp. when you are frustrated. Post them up, then a video of you whomping :):):)
Once we wear out our stock xreas shocks i will be going this route, IVD seems to be tops right now.

Am I the only one that read "pennies" as penis.....just saying....:naughty:

on topic: can't wait to see some pictures!

I'm picking up my new 4runner tomorrow and the first thing I would like to do is focus on lifting it. I'm new to offroading and from what I've read so far i don't want to waste money on lifting with spacers just to have the remove them with coilovers. I do have a few questions that i'm hoping someone might be able to answer for me. Can I replace the front shocks with just coilovers at first in stead of spacers? also, I have the limited model so how would have affect the x-reas system?

Thanks in advance.

Remember...it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...:toilet:

Please cancel the 4 day trip and spend the 4 days on the install :wink2:

Can I replace the front shocks with just coilovers at first in stead of spacers?Yes, The coilovers replace the front shocks. also, I have the limited model so how would have affect the x-reas system? You have to remove the X-REAS suspension system which comprises of the front and rear shocks and connecting hydraulic lines and replace them with the front coilovers and new rear shocks.

Thanks in advance.
Hope that helps... Here is a good read on 4th gen. suspensions. 5ths are pretty dang close

The 4 day trip is being spent making money so I can afford the Icon sus. Plus, I probably won't get my hands on the kit for at least a few weeks. Not everything was in stock and the coilovers don't get built until they are ordered.

There would have been very few things I would have rather been doing than installing my new shocks...the wait and anticipation is driving me nuts.

Maybe I missed it but how much lift does this give? I'm looking forward to the pics. I'm on this forum because my wife is getting a '10 4R but you guys are making me want one. But there is NOOOOOOO way I could give up this 5.7l !!!!

Give up the 5.7...you won't be disappointed. His is a great little powerplant that could be taken to 300hp with a little work (I'll do that too, but not yet). The best thing about the 4rnr is he weight...so much more fun around the corners.

The lift gives you 3" up front and 2" in the back.

Sorry for a lack of update. The sus is in the mail and if all goes well I should have it in my hands before the end of this week. I probably won't have it on until the week of April 18...more travelling to do, this time for fun though.

So let me get this straight: You sold your highly modified 200-series, purchased a new 5th gen 4Runner Trail Edition, and are now putting the same ICON setup you had on the 200 on your 4Runner? What happened to "downsizing"???
