Icon Uniballs failed after 8000 miles...

Has anyone else had issues with the Icon Uniball Control Arms? I purchased the Icon Stage 2 suspension kit with the uniball UCAs back in 2013, without the caps, and the uniballs lasted for until just December of last year. So I ordered a rebuild kit from Icon WITH the caps this time and had them installed on 1/21/16. Around 8000 miles of regular highway driving later, they are destroyed and need replaced again. This has to be some sort of product issue, right?

All this stuff has been installed by professionals, not DIY.

Do you keep them clean? Do you lube them?

I have the same stage two....

I installed mine and have about 5000+ miles on mine. I used the caps as well. BUT... when i installed mine the passenger side uniball would not move at all. Plus the top cap would not fit into top.... strange right...?

The driver side uniball i could move with my own arm strength and the cap dropped right in. Why is one side tight and the other side not????

SO i called Icon and questioned this. Almost as if the tolerance for fitting the uniball was just a millimeter off during manufacturing or something. They assured me there were no issues.... that the weight of the vehicle would "move it" SO i went ahead and installed them. I keep waiting for something like this to happen to mine because of that tight uniball and top cap not fitting.

I know you will, but let us know if you find anything out.

still should lube them. even a cup of water in the desert with a lid, still evaporates.

I'm not a mechanic. The truck goes to the shop every couple months at least and gets a full look. I'm sure they have paid attention to the UCAs, as the balls have already been replaced once. Only hoping there is enough lube going around for...eh, my wallet.

unless they specifically have dealt with Uniballs and often, most have no idea they need to be lubed regularly.

EHNWI how do they fail? Rust or just pure wear through the coating? Any squeaks?

One of my Camburg uniballs were a bit stiff. Hard to move them by hand uninstalled. I have since lubed them and installed so I assume they're "broke in" by now. I wouldn't worry about it.

The guys at Icon were really cool about this. Though we don't know exactly what caused this premature wear yet, they gave me a good deal on a replacement kit. When the kit comes, the mechanic is going to inspect the UCAs further to make sure that there isn't an issue on the inside there.

I thought the caps were for the ball joint installation. Doesn't it specifically say not for use with the uniball.

Llolololololol I doubt your mechanic looks under the caps. Seriously, take some responsibility for maintaining your truck.

It's not hard to wipe and drop some lube on them. I religiously maintain mine.

There is no reason for these to fall apart after 8000 miles, with or without maintenance.

Yeah, icon said the same thing. I trust them and they know what they are doing. Keep it lubed... that seems to be the moral of the story with just about everything....
