Icon Uniballs failed after 8000 miles...

i use the new wd40 dry lube in the pro series of products. works pretty well, my ebay uniballs have lasted over 10k miles with out any issue using it.

That's right.... I wanted a cap for the camburgs but in all actuality I would probably lube it less if it had a cap.

This might be a good opportunity for someone to write up a maintenance guide for Uniball UCA's.
I honestly don't know if I'm taking care of mine properly.
I just spray them with dry lube twice a month and I greased the bushings once since I installed them two months ago.
When I lube the uni-ball I wipe the top clean first. I didn't bother with the caps.
Is there something more I should be doing?
Also to the OP I wouldn't doubt the uni-ball would fail after 8k if no lube was applied, wouldn't take long for them to corrode and start having metal on metal.

So what did Icon say? Did the material not meet spec. requirements? Was it a poorly made batch?
Were they pitted, corroded, galled??? You gave zero details.
Im impressed you got 80k out of your first set living in NWI.

Sorry that you experienced this. While warranty issues are far and few between, they do happen. We always suggest you call the manufacturer first. ICON stands behind their products and have a great warranty department. It looks like youve already reached out to them, but for anyone else

Uniball / UCA Service:
After offroading and periodically the uniball needs to be cleaned and lubed.
Spray them off with clean, plain water. Don't use any type of wet lubricant, the teflon lining will wear out quicker. Use a teflon dry lubricant such as Tri-Flow Superior Dry Lubricant. The Urethane bushings use their own type of lube, do not use anything but Urethane plastic lube, graphite wont work, teflon wont work.
Energy Suspension makes Formula 5, Prothane and Daystar have a good lube as well.

Icon doesn't know, and I don't know. I didn't take it in for issues with the suspension. I took it in for brakes and the shop called me saying they needed replacing. I was surprised because they just installed brand new ones at the end of January, and normal wear would not cause them to fail that quickly, Based on the fact that I drove around 80,000 miles on the previous set. With the information I called Icon and they asked questions about certain specifications that I could not answer, so I had them talk to the shop. I wasn't on the phone when they spoke. Icon called me back and was surprised as well about the issue, and said that it shouldn't happen and that most last around 2 years and gave me a deal on a new set, since there is no warranty for wearable parts. I would expect that they would not do that if it was clear someone messed up putting it all together after talking with the shop. The place I go isn't going to lie about messing something up if they do.

Yeah if the first set lasted 80k without caps, then the set with caps lasts only 8k, that should be a sign to stop using the caps. Just have to wipe the uniballs down every couple weeks and spray some lube on them. They should last
