Icons this weekend

hey guys i'm installing my lift this weekend. As the temperature will be in the low 70's. i will be posting in here as we go. is this the best location for the front jacking point? i did a search here and saw some diagrams but no pics of the actual location. it's getting dark here and this is the best picture i got. basically it's in front of the oil filter housing is a crossmember.

also took some stock measurements front center of hub cap to fender line. front driver 19.5 front passanger 19.75
rear driver 21.25 rear passanger 21.75

Good luck with the install. I'll be watching the thread closely as I'm on the fence about doing mine or paying to have it installed. I'd offer to drive down and give you a hand if I wasn't headed to the deer lease. We're you able to find someone local with experience installing the Icons, or are you flying solo?
 
I'm interested too. My stage 2 kit with tubular uca's should be here on the 2nd and I'm pretty sure I'm going to try the install myself. I've done a lot of work on my jeep but never done any suspension work.

didn't find anyone to help but it doesn't look bad at all. i've done a lift on my 2011 tacoma, the front looks almost identical. the rear is a bit different, since it has coils instead of leaf spring. it shouldn't be too bad. i have 3 days to do it just going to take my time and do one thing at a time.:cheers:

No problem. The install is pretty straightforward and there are plenty of write ups, tip, info and advice on here to get you through it. Just allow yourself adequate time and don't rush it and it'll be fine. If you start with the front the rear will seem like a walk in the park. A second set of hands will make the UCAs easier but people have done it solo.
 
Do it yourself. If you have done work on your taco, it should be similar. Read the threads on here, think ahead and give er'.

I did mine in my garage in 7 hours solo. I did have the wife come and help once align the UCA as I was trying to get the bolt in on the drivers side. It's a pretty simple job once you get into it.

On the rear I used the stock bottle jack to expand the axel /frame clearance when installing the rear spring. Worked like a champ.

this site is a wealth of information. i spend a couple of months just reading up
on lifts info. thanks to people like you, the average guy can do this work themselfs. i'm taking my time (3 days worth) lol

yeah i ready in here, where you put the bottle jack on the axle to give a bit more room to remove the springs. picked up one the other day at harbor freight.

do you have the same set up? the reason i ask is because there are two brackets for the front coilovers. those brackets are used only if you have the kdss?

If you get a chance next time you are in there, could you take a installed shot with the control arms? Would like to see the clearance between the resi hose and arm. :thanks:

sure will do. just remember my uca's are dsm's not the icon ones.

I had good luck with the rear springs by using a ratchet strap to compress the springs a little so they fit in the perch. Didnt take much and worked great.
The front is super easy. I would loosen the cam bolts just a little to move the LCA. It makes the install go much smoother. It will need an alignment anyway so dont worry about it being off.

Sorry mine was a toytec ultimate. Not sure what the brackets you are referring to are for.

thanks maan. i'm picking it back up tommorrow. quick question. i've read a few posts that there are a few bolts that needs to be torqued with the 4 wheels back on the ground. did you do that with your install? if so which bolts were those?

I didn't go anything specific once it was back on the ground. I did pull the wheels back off after about 200 miles and re torque everything but that is about it.
