This is a good reminder to go over your vehicle real good before and after going off-road. I'm betting this was all caused by loose u-bolts so it could've been prevented. Even after the u-bolts snapped, this could've been prevented by strapping the axle real tight to the springs and slowly winching him down the hill from the top. We all live and learn, some just learn the hard way.
 
Can someone explain to me what they were trying to accomplish here? Why were they trying to pull him DOWN that hill?

Oh yeah, that's correct! (bad videography, BTW).They're pulling him down! Shouldn't it simply roll downhill?
Aside from damaging that Tacoma... Winching in that configuration is good, but FJ cruiser is backing up. That's called towing. Why tow in reverse? Isn't first gear meant for moving forward stronger than the reverse gear meant for retreating?

Amen to that. Although, if you dig a bit, there's some record of some stupid sh*t I've done unfortunately...

I truly believe we lived in one of the most perfect times. Last generation of a truly tech-free childhood, but then reap all of the benefits of it as adults. Only thing I'd trade is the fashion of yoga pants for the grunge-era flannels and baggy jeans.

Not a bad point, but I'm a butt guy. :nod:

Not to mention that when I was in high school, the "rave" scene just started (at least in my local area), so there wasn't even a sort of fashion related to it.
 
Current theory is that because it was center locked or the diffs were locked, the drive train bound up.

I seriously doubt it was in park. There was ****ery a foot, but I want to give the driver the benefit of the doubt on THAT front.

Obviously a LOT went wrong here, and some may stay conjecture as long as we're alive.
 
You could see the front tires turn for a second then stop turning again. The fact the guy driving didn't know he was supposed to steer makes me think he may have been on the brakes the whole time.... Or in park.
